Stock size/height different between Russian and Chinese?

My buddy has a Norinco SKS, and we've shot it a fair bit for three years or so. The other day I was at the store and handled a Russian SKS, and it was very familiar...except the cheekpiece seemed to be slightly lower than I was expecting...the ironsights didn't line up with my preferred cheekweld position. I would look at the irons expecting to see both front and rears at the same height, but instead have to raise my head to see the fronts aligned with the rears.

That got me thinking and looking at the Russian stock, I concluded that it had a narrower contour, it seemed like there was actually less thickness to the butt area. I wondered if the cheek area was actually slightly lower than on the Chinese versions, and if the length of pull was similar or the same or not?

Anyone own both, or who has experienced what I'm talking about? Do Russian SKS's have variations in dimensions that can be physically noticed while shooting?

The chinese has a noticeably thicker stock in all areas. Side by side the russian is quite a bit slimmer. LOP feels about the same and the cheek weld is definetely different. The russian isnt as filled-out as the chinese and requires I move my face lower to make good contact. Overall the chinese feels like a bigger rifle than the russian does, in all areas. Its also a little heavier.

Yea, I noticed the weight thing too, the Chinese one IS noticeably heavier than the Russian. The LOP seemed the same, but I thought I'd ask since the rest of it threw me off a bit!
