sell it and don't look back. no one else's opinion matters if you have shot it. most people telling you how great it is probably own one, and have either never shot anything better or wouldn't pay more money for a better gun. that is not a criticism either. we all have to decide where to put our hard earned dollars. i'm sure the ruger is capable of reasonable accuracy and all we are doing is punching paper anyway.

I only list rnd count on guns I have owned from new and then it's only a reasonable approximation, if I'm selling a gun it's usually because I don't use it enough so hence the rnd counts are pretty low. If you're buying a gun used they are not fitted with shot counters so "caveat emptor" is my motto.

Personally I shoot almost everyweeks but always the sames guns. I have guns that have seen no more than 25 rounds.....
 
There are guys in the fortunate position of being able to own and shoot whatever the current 'flavour of the month' gun they want to try. I know at least one of them.

I often ask about 'round count', and have recently bought a few that were legitimately so described. The lack of wear and handling marks supported the claim. When you can't see and handle the gun, most GunNutz sellers are scrupulous in their honesty.

On the other hand, when you are openly honest about round count, it can deter a sale. My wife wants to sell her Ruger SR9 (c/w 6 factory mags) that has fired a logged 1550 rds. I regard the gun as 'broken in'. The gun has no issues and is in great condition - BUT - as soon as she mentions the rd count, people lose interest.

They want a virginal gun without having to pay the going rate. Others want prices close to retail for guns that are less than pristine. It is always a case of caveat emptor.
 
When someone posts that they have done a whole bunch of stuff to customize a gun, I worry more about this then I do round count. I for one have stuff customized as well, but I have it done properly by others when I'm not absolutely sure how to do it myself. It seems that many try to learn on a gun, and when they're not happy with the results, sell it off.

pfffft...1550 rounds is NOTHING. i consider it brand sparkling new.

BUT...if the gun's finish has blemishes,marks,dings,then it's just less interesting for me. let's face our handguns are paper punchers you show off on the line like any sport car or roadbike in a parking lot .

on the other hand, how can you pretend a given gun has a very low round count if the finish is all messed up.

dude, you should calm down. i've bought 3 guns in the past and put through 100 to 350 bullet only because i didn't like them.
they looked cool but they were just not suited for my hands so i just sold them.

if you have money lying around, you'll splurge and buy a bunch of #### you don't need. :/
 
To me if you keep track of the rounds fired in all your firearms you either don't have enough or have very bad OCD.

I've had pistols that have been beaten to all living hell. I USE my gear. I shoot IPSC, 3 gun etc. and train as hard as I can. I've Had guns dragged through dirt, gravel, rain and snow. Beat up guns to me have character. as long as they function I'm happy. Go on a good course and if you don't come out with a scratch, you're doing it wrong.

I keep a log of rounds fired, as well as a range report in my range book of weather, guns used, stages shot and drills I ran. This way I can track my progress, mistakes and what needs improvement. Though I train for this, as it is my job, as others are just hobbyists.

I keep accurate logged tracks on precision rifles, as well as guns I am run for a test.

I keep rough round counts on all the others (as some get a lot of rounds and need to be maintained.

I like to do the same, I log what ammo I take to the range and what if any I bring back mainly for maintenance and costing..

Exactly, I am not training for my job and I don't depend on my firearms to defend myself daily. When I go to shoot handguns I typically take 8 as that is what fits in my take-down shotgun case, they can be from 22 to 500 S&W and the variety of the eight differs depending what ammo I have loaded, which I keep in ziplock bags so what a pain it would be to keep track of what got shot in which handgun.
Shoot them and enjoy them like you will be the last owner because the way thing are going you could be.
 
Rough round counts should suffice. Most use issues can be adequately sorted out with changing out consumables(springs etc). The thing to be leary of are individuals who tinker with the guts and the ammo that they feed it. I would take a gun that has had 2000 factory rounds through it over an "upgraded" Dremel special with 100 home fried mystery loads through it. I have been guilty of running less than 200 rds through a gun and pulling a 180 and selling or trading it.
