Storing Restricted at range

So my spouse would prefer if I kept my guns at the range and I am cool with that. I contacted the CFO and got all the documents sorted. Does anyone find it weird that right now I store them at home and can take them to any approved range in the province without any STATT and once they are stored at my range I still have this option, even the ability to spend say the weekend in Edmonton with my rifle going to an approved range and storing wherever I am staying without permission. But I need to request a STATT to bring my guns home for cleaning. Seems really odd to me.

In that case, the registered location of storage is the range.

Your home does not fit into one of the designated "allowed" destinations that are issued with your RPAL.. (as in, a range, shop, repair, border, show)... hence the need for a STATT.

Also.. you say "rifle".. assuming it's a restricted rifle, as NR does not need an ATT.

I would never think of storing my firearms anywhere other than my house, but I guess it's your choice.

Sorry, for the derail. Saw freedoms name and now this song is stuck in my head........

Freedom isn't free
No, there's a hefty ####in' fee
And if you don't throw in your buck 'o five
Who will?
You don't throw in your buck 'o five
Who will?

Oo, buck 'o five
Freedom costs a buck 'o five

Id keep the guns at my home and store the spouse at the range...

Does the range have insurance to cover your stuff? If it goes missing will they be replacing it?

I would never think of storing even my most hated firearm at my range, restricted or not. There's no where to tear it down and clean them, working on them at the range would be a PITA, not to mention my work area at home is extremely comfortable and the most convenient place to do both. It's also considerably more secure, climate controlled, there's no concern of bumbling fools knocking my guns over or bumping into it etc.

It's extremely counterintuitive to store them outside of your control, so yes, it's very strange that you have to apply for an STATT to clean them.

Everyone is different and we shouldn't jump to hard on the op, hopefully he is working on getting his wife comfortable with the idea that a firearm is a tool and tools should be kept in your possession.

It wouldn't be too hard to argue that the safest place for them is in the OP's possession. How would he and his wife feel if his range was targeted for theft because it's a known location and his firearms were then used in a crime?

My range has a wall of lockers for people to rent and store their guns in,personally I prefer to keep my guns at my house but after talking to alot of the people that store them there I heard alot of different reasons as to why they store them there.

I don't get the logic of some of these posts. Yes I am choosing to store my restricted firearm at the range. The alternative is not to have a firearm at all. Yes would I prefer to have them at home no doubt. But unfortunately I don't have that option so I might as well just cut my pal up because it is such an injustice to not have my rifle at my house. There are risks with either option, to be honest it is also more convenient for me so I don't have to run home before I can go to the range after work because they are in opposite directions. From the tone of these posts you would think the thread title was "guns are bad and should be banned". Give your heads a shake, not everyone has the same circumstances, and as long as people are able to enjoy this hobby in a safe manner what difference does it make.

I can understand your reasoning for storing them at the range and some people just have a hard time thinking about such a thing, I'm one of them. Hopefully it all works out good for you and you keep on enjoying your firearms.

Same here, I just have a hard time wrapping my head around it for many reasons. If it's more convenient for you, then that's great. I bounce around from range to range so storing them at one in particular would be considerably less convenient. Not to mention my home range hasn't changed much since the '50s and really has no provision for firearm storage other than seacans as far as I'm aware.

Keep in mind it's a bit of a sensitive time to be bringing this particular topic up given Bill S-223 is proposing to make it mandatory all owners store their pea-shooters at a central storage facility, so myself and I'm sure many others are reluctant to concede to a perspective that aligns with part of the bill I previously mentioned.
