Stripping krylon paint off an Ar-15

Wow, that's a pretty intolerant comment and I don't think I've ever heard of anyone in the CF ever say that, or is that merely your opinion?

We cam our faces and wear cadpat, I don't see why wanting to paint your rifle to match your environment would make you want to want to fornicate with someone of the same gender. The QM would definitely have a $hitfit and the RSM would probably tear you new one (aside from possibly being charged), but what you said is a bit of a stretch.

I've seen pictures of that rifle everywhere, you knew the owner? Must have some interesting stories.

He was a brother. Almost gone a year now

Acetone evaporates fast, use generous amounts and scrub good with a rag. It should all come off. Pretty much everything removes krylon, a good soak with varsol or any slower evaporating solvent will make the job easier.

Didn't front line deployed soldiers and special operations folks used to krylon their guns and gear? I wonder if it's good enough for people that use it for actual work why is it not good enough for people that punch paper holes at ranges....?

Some do some don't… personal preference.

I think we should just all agree that painting works for some and doesn't work for others. No need to beat up on each other. Some people on here are being real A$$%'{$.
I have some guns I've painted and some I haven't. For me, I paint the guns I hunt with, leave the others. I just bought a "black" shotgun for grouse, ducks, and geese this fall. You better believe I'm painting it. I've seen what ducks do when someone in the group starts waving their black shotgun around.. Camo helps.. There are no long black pipes hiding naturally beside ponds in nature.

If I do resell in the future, I'm sure I'll lose less in the sale due to Krylon then I would have paid a shop to cerakote it or hydrodip it in the first place.

Again not all of my guns. The the ones I've painted I love, and I haven't sold any of em.

The great thing about using acetone over other paint removers is after you have scrubbed all the old paint off and still have bits of paint in the cracks and you say 'f@ck it, that is close enough' - at that point it is de-greased for a new coat of paint that will continue to p!ss off the fudds in your club and send sand up the ######s of the keyboard crowd on gun putz.

You win the internets today! I laughed so hard I literally coughed something up.

When you can't lock a thread but must absolutely shut it the f**k down.

I soak all the guns I Cerakote in Non Chlorinated brake cleaner. Acetone seems to smell even worse so I don't use that. Wear a proper face mask and eye protection and very heavy rubber gloves( not surgical ) even if you do it outdoors. It will bubble up the paint, and you brush it off with a nylon brush. It will not harm proper anodizing. After all the paint is removed, slather it in oil for a while. Then wipe it down to almost dry. That should do it. I love guys who paint their guns because it usually means work for me eventually. So paint away !

Give the man a cigar!

For the new paint job, Aervoe paint is supposed to be much more durable than Krylon.

Spent 2 hours last night scrubbing the paint off with a toothbrush.
I've got the upper mounted on a crusader lower now

Soon to have some upgrades and an aimpoint and Surefire mounted on it
