What is the strongest lever action ever built?

I ask this question because today I was in WSS and a guy there proclaimed it to be the M1895 Winchester; I'm kinda skeptical about this. I know it is a strong action and can handle high-intensity rounds such as the .270Win and .30-06, but then the Browning BLR will handle .300WM.
So my immediate reply was, "Bull#### and how do you prove that?", which the guy did not answer.

I'd really like to know if there are certified tests that have been conducted, as opposed to just 'opinions', but feel free to share opinions too.

M1895 Winchester #### YA.

.303 British , 7.62x54R. Real rifle cartridges, REAL POWER!

People beat people to death with that rifle in the day, an those rifles still exist today.

I would think the Browning BLR, they chamber them in 300 WM, I wish they would build them in 338WM.

I'm sure the 1895 and the BLR would both be in the running. The BLR has an aluminum receiver but the locking lugs of the bolt lock into the barrel itself so the receiver isn't load bearing for the firing of a cartridge. The saami max pressure of the 270 winchester and the 300wsm are identical: 65 000 psi. The 300 win mag is 64 000 and 30-06 is 60 000

I don't know if the bolt thrust would differ much or not, but the pressure is the same. If you want to compare which one you can use as a club longer then I'd take the 1895, but if you're comparing the ability to resist a KABOOM I'd take the gun that was manufactured most recently. In practice I doubt you could tell the difference for two new-manufacture rifles of these designs.

Are there any other models we haven't mentioned?

well, way back when, one of the faults of 95 winchester in 06 was that the bolts would soften and crack- so much that users were cautioned - so it's NOT the 95 winchester- that's the originals- the ones made in 1970 or so probably had no such problems due to the better metallurgy of the time

Probably the BLR, although I'd like to have seen what could have been done with the other front locking lever rifle, the 88 Winchester.
It wasn't around long enough for Winchester to consider making a long action version, so it never saw the big cartridges, however, it does handle short high pressure cartridges like the 308 with ease.

I was talking to a fellow in the design department of Browning shortly after they released their Model 1886 SRC lever gun. He told me how strong that action and barrel is. I won't repeat what he said but I would say the modern 1886 action with its double locking lugs is the strongest action based on what he told me.

I'll throw my "opinion" slightly biased into the ring.. I would think the M71 ranks up there pretty far, mostly based on the various high powered wildcats:)
Was looking at a BLR in 325wsm seemed well built , must be to handle that round!

Model 88

The 71 is nothing but a relatively modern steel 86, but I agree the design of the 86 would make it the strongest of the rear lock up lever actions but having said that the forward locking still have to get the nod for stongest overall.
