So I wanted to take it off my precision Colt H-bar and replace it with a brake. Been on it since it's birth. I REALLY cranked on the motherf*cker... won't budge. I don't have a barrel vice so it makes it that much harder again.....

I am contemplating spraying it with a releasing agent and letting it sit then another good dosing and giving it another go ...

Any other suggestions????

Let it soak in some weasel piss over night, she'll be OK tomorrow. I use JB-80.

*You're not doing this on your living room floor with the upper underneath a phone book while you stand on it are you? * Don't laugh. seen it done *

Hmmm, really make sure its not pinned, I have a Armalite M15T 16' stainless barrel, they are pinned and then welded over the pin and ground smooth.

If you cant unscrew it using a vise and a couple of wooden blocks on the barrel then really check for pins.

Your best off to drill the pin out.

Using a drill press and a vice block
(or end mill thingy)

It will/can make a mess of the FH -- but you can then remove it.

I've also seen people toss the bbl in a lathe and remove the FH via metal removal

I examined my FH very closely... definately not pinned.

The saga continues.....

So I managed to remove my PITA factory FH. I had to use some heat ...I opted to try a propane torch first so as not to heat things up too much or too fast. Clamped it in a vise with wood blocks... a few grunts and a couple of "Hail Mary's" ;) :D later and it was finally off. I installed my new brake that I got from Arms East (Thanks Walter!) and everything is now GTG.
