Stuck in a tuff spot

so why hasn't the CPC changed this? they've got a majority. they're on the side of the law abiding gun owners. they can only blame the previous liberal administrations for so long.
2 reasons, one, they feel the political fallout from the middle voters will be too negative, and two, they likely want to keep dribbling out the candy so we keep voting for them in each election. A bit of candy coming later this year, just like last year.

PS there are also many ppl in the CPC that support much of the firearms act. Vic Toews is one, there are many others. Those folks do have power.

From my understanding, many firearms were prohibited or restricted by Order in Council. Can firearms be removed from the prohibited weapons orders by another OIC? I remember reading that they cannot use OICs to un-ban firearms. The CPC would have to re-write the firearms act.

Why haven't they re-written the firearms act? Probably not politically expedient to do so at this time.

Is the confiscation of our restricted firearms a real threat? I've been out of the political loop for a bit. I am in a similar spot as the OP. Looking to buy a glock in the next while but if there is a chance of loosing it I will wait. Question is, wait how long? Someone please enlighten me to the circumstances of this issue?

Current standings, as a brief summary:

Registered pistols are under attack. But not the unregistered ones
All semi-autos are under attack. Yes even .22LR semi-auto
50 BMG is under attack. Why not the .416 barrett or the cheytacs or the lapua, I don't know.

If they can't outright ban them, they'll prohibit ranges from allowing people to use them, which I'm noticing the CFO is doing in Ontario to "constructively dismiss" ownership of 50BMG. If your range won't allow 50BMG but they do allow the .416 or .408 etc, ask why and then change ranges. Closure of a range through lack of patronage is also a goal of CFO's, but they inherently have their own vested interest in keeping their job, so I see a catch-22.

I personally think that the destruction of the registry was a recipe for disaster. The problem being is now that the individuals who CHOSE to remove it have given the opposition ammo for cause.

Think about it, how many rifles and other firearms are non-restricted and in unknown locations/numbers floating in Canada potentially being bought/utilized by criminals.. this WILL be brought up as a tactic I guarantee it. So the only way to get everyone to fess up to where these rifles are is to put a blanket ban on ownership of them.

The mindset of non gun owners is false obviously, they dont realize that the tax-paying gun registered citizen is NOT the target they should worry about. Criminals will get guns regardless whether its from Canada or the US.

The fact that they disarm the law-abiding citizens and treat them as a "threat" only is a smoke/mirror show for votes to make it look like they are making the public safer when in fact they are doing quite the opposite.

Anyways I know that rant is off-topic somewhat...

To sum up my decision I will buy the rifle and see how this plays out. Worst case-scenario is they prohib it and I get a neato toy others dont have, or they pay me the original price on it and I make some $. If they prohib this rifle they better provide some DAMN solid evidence to the public/gun owners.

They are never going to just un-prohib everything on the list in one shot, the citiots would go bat #### crazy. Instead i feel the best way to eat this elephant is one bite at a time starting with getting the ar15 off the restricted list. The nfa has realized this is the best tactic in our political climate.

I really want a SWISS arms rifle, love the look/feel but in this current political climate and their review I am wondering if that would be a stupid decision to make?. I found a pretty good local deal on one.

I dont want to buy a restricted to get a knock on the door and have them remove my property..

Anyways thoughts/Opinions.. I know nobody really knows whats going on..

The Swiss Arms family of firearms is already on the watch list of the RCMP , if the govt. changes in a year and a half , you may end up with an expensive paper weight on your hands that you cannnot use or sell ......it is probabley best to hold off......

Everything is on their list. After all the firearms are banned, they'll come for your pens and pencils so you can't defend yourself with words either. Then they'll come for your tongues.
