I'd love to get a walking stick version of this.......
"Man spotted in Calgary chasing coyotes with what looks like a stick!"
I had a summer job once working for Atco Gas, going into people's back yards all day long with a "Flame Pack" gas leak detector. The air sample was drawn thru a walking cane with a wider section (rubber cup) at the bottom - similar configuration to this stun cane. I was approached by dogs many times a day and attacked more than a dozen times that summer.
What I found is if you present the tip of the cane to the dog's muzzle it stops them cold. They cannot figure a way around it - dodge left, dodge right, a flick of the wrist and the end is still in their face. Totally confuses them and they settle down. Having a cane that goes bzzzzzt!!! and shocks them if they touch it - you would be pretty much invincible against any single dog.
Use on Humans - so long as your intent to carry was animal protection - at the point you are attacked by a human you are justified in using whatever amount of force is reasonable and necessary under the circumstances to defend yourself, with whatever tools you have in hand.
If you don't trust the Justice system just employ the tried and true technique of making yourself scarce afterwards. In the event you are caught up with by the Police, there are plenty of justifications for leaving that a Lawyer could employ on your behalf. Keep it simple - he attacked me, I defended myself, to avoid any more trouble I left. If that's not a good enough explanation Lawyer up immediately, and let a professional figure it out.
Although this perfectly sums up the legal requirements/wrangling needed to defend one's actions in the face of an assault, the requirements of the Criminal Code are quite clear, but,I'm fairly certain "stun gun" anything, in Canada, is prohibited/restricted. Other than law enforcement, tasers are illegal to possess. I doubt these would be any different.
