Hey guys, I'm thinking of picking up a su-16 and a su22 in the near future. I don't know a great deal about these rifles but from what I've read the su16 may had had issues with cracking receivers in the past.

So I'm looking for some clarification on these guns and in particular was the cracking receiver issue only on earlier release models? Has this issue been fixed now? Is the su16 a safe firearm to use?

Sorry about all the questions but just looking to clear up some of what I've read as I know the internet can sometimes blow things out of proportion sometimes.

Any help here would be great, thanks.

I had one ,and it was ok, nobody knows if the issue was corrected. If you buy used you get no warranty, and it will be harder to sell,as people are now aware of that. Even though it was a nice gun to play around with, I wouldn't buy another one. Parts and repairs are to iffy.

I had shot a few before I bought my SU 16. Never any REAL problems from my buddies or mine.
The aftermarket forends are junk, unless you get aluminum.
The rifle itself is a fun gun or semi close varmint gun. I have a bolt action 223 for hunting, but the lightness of the SU is fun in the bush or range. The LAR mags are a bonus for sure.
Get one new, on sale.
I would buy another, if not just for light weight hiking option alone.

I had the aluminum forend, if I were to do it again ,I would just get the fx, pistol grip stock, forend, and it's threaded for a flash hider. I found the aluminum forend didn't look so great and just added extra weight ( kinda defeating the light weight appeal). Oh,buy new.

Had one. Junk. All plastic with a barrel molded into a claim shelled receiver. They're built like toy guns, two plastic halves with pins and springs pushed into molded holes. I also had a Sub 2000 and a KSG, also both junk. KSG was the better of the three by far.
I also had the pistol grip and compact forend. I put a Red Lion precision trigger in mind too which made a world of difference but in the end it was all just lipstick on a pig.

Well, you can take this with a grain of salt............All the ones that have had 223ammo put through them "any brand" haven't broke. With 556 and Hotter reloads, there have been reports of receiver breaking. I have run a wack of 223 out of mine and zero problems. They are kinda cheapish feeling, but it always goes bang and Ive never had any FTE or FTF or cycling issues. It has an extremely fast trigger reset ....It is the fastest shooting semi Ive ever owned. The accuracy was the same as my Ruger mini 14. Its NON restricted and you can run Lar or beowolf mags. Lots of fire power. I had a Just right carbine, a high point 45, ruger mini, a nork AR...didn't like them as much as the SU 16. I hate guns that are pinned to 5 rounds !!!!

I have 2 and neither have ever had issues. Maybe I lucked-out?

You can top 'em with scope and feed 'em LAR mags, and you've got a fun & light .223 that can regularly print 2-inch groups (or better) at 50 yards.

A sniper-rifle, it's not....but it's non-restricted and you can wait for a price-dip to purchase it below $700.

yes your right, but its mostly Americans breaking them using 556. Just be safe and don't run it.
I heard of a couple here in canada, I remember when I first bought mine, bought 40 rnds of norc for the 40 rnd breakin... Still got the 40 rnds of Norc..lol... After reading a couple threads about norc, said fac that.
