Sub-$500 Scope+Rings suggestions for a CZ 457 Noob

I'll second the Covenant scope. I have 2X of the 6-24x50-FFP, one on my CZ-455 SS Lux and the other on my Sav B-22 FV. Both rifles are shooting 0.4xx - 0.7xx @ 50. The 5-25X56 should allow even better, but for a couple hundred more the Athlon Argos 8-34x56 FFP is on my 457 VMTR. A lot depends on what you want to do with the rifle . . I'm going for the sub-1/2".

So I decided to pull the trigger on the Riton X1 Conquer 6-24x50 last night. Ordered it through Tenda, and I must say I'm already a bit disappointed. I got a message on my order this morning telling me they want my PAL to verify myself (to prevent fraud). So I had to call, since I don't yet have my PAL, and I was told they'll refund me and I'll instead have to pay via an EMT. <smh>

So yet more waiting.

Most Vendors "Are asking for PAL" for scopes, even tho that is fairly 'low-cost'. Most aren't asking for Pics YET . . .

The comment about using your scope as a handle speaks volumes.
The Leupold ring mounts are fine for starters but are for one inch scope tubes.
Next up is a pica tinny rail that will allow 30 mm tubes.
The day of a $500 rings scope combinations that yield satisfaction is quickly disappearing.
With the 457, the value of the rifle equaling the optic's value is probably more realistic

I agree with this sentiment 100%. Do yourself a big favour and wait till you have enough for a scope that matches the quality of the gun, you will not regret it in this case. I have an older 452, with an ancient 4 power fixed leupold scope on it that shoots like a laser beam. My middle son is 13, turning 14 in sept. And I hope to be able to afford a 457 for his birthday, maybe a scope for Christmas. I'd love to get a 453 too, and start a cz .22 collection, such an underrated gun.

You can also get a scope meant for a pellet gun. The one I got has the reticle etched into the lense, so you never have to worry about a scope losing zero. Very clear optics and very affordable. I'll have a look for the link - may away your decision.

As I've gone with the Riton X1 Conquer 6-24x50mm - which has 67 MOA adjustment, would I need an MOA rail to shoot long range?

Also: is the top of the CZ 457 dovetail flat or curved?

I got my used Bushnell Match Pro for $580, and use $20 rings off amazon. I highly recommend you just wait one more paycheck and buy a final solution. Keep in mind, there's nothing stopping you from re-selling it for 575 IF you decide to change to something else, so really it only cost you $5.

Welcome to the 22 game my good sir!

I would say if your going to be using it for plinking and maybe hunting you will have little need for a high powered target scope. A hunting scope can still be used to plink and shoot paper just fine but having too much scope is a trap allot of people fall in to. My recommendation is a nice quality scope and rings that should be outstanding for shooting out to 50 yards and not breaking the bank.

Scope:

If you are going target exclusive and want to reach out to 100+ yards then you best bet is to find a nice used scope here on the EE for a good price. Bushnell Match/Forge are good ones for starting out, or a nice vortex Diamondback/Viper if you can get one cheap enough. Those almost always use 30mm rings though.

You will still need a rail tho, and depending on the hight of that rail you may want to step down the ring hight to a medium instead of a high. Hope this helps even if just a little!

Not a bad price for the optic. Have you put this up against an athlon argos Gen 2 by chance ? Curious how the glass on the two compare.
