Don't get me wrong, I want one.
I just don't know why or what I'd use it for.
Plus they're expensive.
Plus they're claimed accuracy seems rather poor.
Anybody got one that they use for anything other than a cordless hole puncher? Views?

If you are talking “ elf sword” style miniature chassis bolt action “pistols” I think a big part of it is using suppressors and having a rifle that is still compact

Me “ I just think they’re neat”

I think he’s referring to this kind of thing:

Pork swords is another name, “ invented” by guys in NZ

Elf owl, not sword. No clue what that is supposed to mean

Bergara did a limited run:

The CZ 600 trail seems like a turnkey factory option

Savage has a 110 pistol with a left hand bolt right side eject; that seems catered for use without a brace but I can’t see it being too handy with a stock, also probably a pistol by Canadian regs but considering the mares leg thing who knows

Probably take some maneuvering to make sure homebrew ones are Canada legal; I think one on an mdt hnt 26 folder would be really cool.

Neat, neat, neat though

I have a Weatherby Vanguard S2 compact in 7-08 that I really like for hunting. The short 20 inch barrel and shorter LOP work great for me when I'm wearing a lot of clothes in the cold. I find the smaller size handles really well and comes up to my shoulder just perfectly. IMHO I don't think you will lose much accuracy with a compact rifle that is set up properly.

Here is one of the first of the genre. (Image lifted off the 'net). The Grendel SRT. Very interesting muzzle brake. Hand detachable, seats on tapered muzzle. Locking collar has left and right hand threads, so turning one way pulls the brake onto the taper, the other forces it off. This system was also intended for attachment of a silencer. The tapers would insure accurate alignment. Good shooter, capable of at least moa.

I shoot many short barrel carbines, but have no idea what a "sub-compact bolt action rifle" is???

I guess they're neat? Personally I don't think I see much advantage to them over some compact rifles for hunting. I find my Howa mini 450 bushmaster with its 16 inch barrel handy, lightweight and compact enough for even the thickest bush and longest packs.

Sub compact seems to suggest even shorter then your many short barrel carbines. There are many pictured directly above your post to help give you a better idea of what they look like.

As someone suggested they make sense when your running a suppressor to keep the length down.

It's kind of the same mentality as what constitutes a "stalking rifle". Inevitably, there are going to be different opinions on what constitutes a "sub-compact" bolt gun. My opinion would be ANY bolt action rifle with a barrel length shorter than 18 inches, regardless of stock design or material. Personally, I would have zero practical use for any larger calibre bolt action rifle with a barrel shorter than 20 inches. Lever gun, yes.

I really don't think a 19 inch barreled carbine with a traditional wooden stock is what buddy is talking about.

Sorry folks, referring to the new CZ 600 Trail and the BCL's with the 12.5" barrels in .223/x39 and .300. Now BCL even has 12.5" barrels in .308 and... something else biggish.
I have a CZ 527 in x39 and love it.
Like I said, with factory claimed accuracy of 2 to 3 MOA (some, not all), it seems like the range on these things is rather limited.
Anyway, was just wondering about peoples reactions whether owning one or not.
I have my eye on the lookout for a BCL in x39 in OD because, well just because.
The more NR firearms in my possession is one more Trudeau won't know about.

The 600 Trail has a 16.2" barrel, basically the same as my Ruger Frontier rifles. The BCL has a much shorter barrel, but a search of "Sub Compact Rifle" brings up a bunch of semi-auto.pistol caliber carbines.

But, the OP has clarified what he is referring to.

The CZ 600 Trail you refer to has a 16" barrel and is 35" long with the stock extended, so that is merely compact by my estimation. Sub-compact would have to be something around the 12.5" barrel options you mention.

I think as others said above, they're a niche product that are great if you can use a suppressor. If not, then the noise and muzzle blast would make them unpleasant to shoot. Even so, I'm sure there is a use-case for someone looking for ultra-light, ultra-packable.

If chambered in a pistol cartridge then I might be interested, personally.

Glad you figured it out... :)
