This is my second year hunting turkeys. Last year I nailed a small Jake way near the end of the season with about a 2" beard. I don't hunt turkey's too aggressively so this wasn't a big deal to me.
This year I pretty much had the same approach. Bought one box call to compliment my smaller box call from last year.
Went for a walk yesterday once the rain went away out of sheer boredom. Camo'd up and brought the shotgun in case I came across a Tom.
At about 1pm I walked down the path towards an open field where I shot my jake last year. Didn't see anything so I threw out a few yelps and sure enough a big sounding gobbler hollered back. I doubled back because I couldn't walk out to the field without him seeing me and I know from last years experience that he would not come to me. I went back about 100yds to a stand I use during deer season on the edge of another open field.
Started calling again and I called in one pissed off large female. Farted around with her for a while until sure enough the Tom started gobbling right behind me. I was able to appear to be an uninterested female by walking away from him and purring in another field. He came out full strut within 15yds and now we're having a big turkey dinner Thursday
