This is my second year hunting turkeys. Last year I nailed a small Jake way near the end of the season with about a 2" beard. I don't hunt turkey's too aggressively so this wasn't a big deal to me.

This year I pretty much had the same approach. Bought one box call to compliment my smaller box call from last year.

Went for a walk yesterday once the rain went away out of sheer boredom. Camo'd up and brought the shotgun in case I came across a Tom.

At about 1pm I walked down the path towards an open field where I shot my jake last year. Didn't see anything so I threw out a few yelps and sure enough a big sounding gobbler hollered back. I doubled back because I couldn't walk out to the field without him seeing me and I know from last years experience that he would not come to me. I went back about 100yds to a stand I use during deer season on the edge of another open field.

Started calling again and I called in one pissed off large female. Farted around with her for a while until sure enough the Tom started gobbling right behind me. I was able to appear to be an uninterested female by walking away from him and purring in another field. He came out full strut within 15yds and now we're having a big turkey dinner Thursday :D

Nice big tom there Krash... congrats. For a second year turkey hunter, you seem to have the birds figured out in youre area.

You learn quick and thats a requirement for successfull turkey hunting.:D

I wish I was half as smart.;)

Scheissen! That's a heck of a bird, congrats!

Did you take the camo tape off your shotgun before the pic, because you could'nt have possibly used a walnut-stocked, blued gun to shoot him....

Haahah, that remy 1100 is about 30 years old and my dad used it do drop countless gophers, geese, ducks, you name it. I picked it up and continued the tradition without any mods

Last year I shot that jake wearing blue work pants and a tattered camo t-shirt lol.

NICE!

I drove 13 hours for my first turkey hunt this year (no turkey this far north) and after a week hiking into the mountains around Cristina Lake we got skunked. Had an amazing time though and will definitely be going again next year.

Hope you enjoyed your dinner,

I've used my dad's old Mossberg that looks like that with no problem either.

Awesome bird KRASH, appreciate the story too!

Whoa Whoa Whoa wait you guys are saying it is possible to hunt with wood stocked firearms? I though you could only hunt turkeys with plastic stocked pistol grip Ultra Super Extra Really Extreme Full Choked Ultra Magnum Shotguns.... weird.

Congrats, nice looking turkey and good on ya for carrying your old man's firearm, there is a so much to be said for a nice old gun.
