Suggestions for a "DMR"-type optic

So here's my situation. I have a Colt Canada IUR 15.7 upper which, while it is on the heavy side, is freakishly consistent in its shot placement. So, I've decided to use it as the basis for a medium-range (200-400 yard) DMR rifle sometime later this year.

I'm thinking I'd like to spend maybe $600ish for an optic, tops, and would want something decent in relatively low light, variable zoom (maxing out at something like 12x?) with an illuminated reticle.

What would people suggest? I already have a couple of spare rings and other mounts, so really only need the optic. I have several 1-4 optics already, but I'd like something with more magnification for longer ranges.

Thanks!

For mine, I'm running an 18" colt rifle with a stainless ultra match barrel, optic I'm using is an FFP vortex viper PST in 2.5-10x32.
I think I got mine for around 650 a few years ago. I find the 2.5-10 to be the perfect DMR optic range.

Is it the best optic? No, but it's also not my best area of shooting and I'd say it's reasonably close within your budget.

Dont do a strike eagle.... The glass does not compare to the PST.

PST is far superior.

There are many options,

Cheap - Bushnell 10 mil-dot fixed power.... damn near bulletproof scope. very high quality for the 300 bucks you can find them for.
Mid-range - there are a few leupold you can set for 500-600 that are decent quality, and lighter weight to offset the IUR weight.
Higher cost... PST line is good value for tactical features.

Or... Spend more, and get an optic you will keep between rifles....

I had the 2.5-10x x32mm viper PST FFP.... I loved it.... sold it for 850

Thanks. Good to know about the Strike Eagle. I like good glass, and I'm a big fan of the EE, so maybe a used Viper PST will end up on it :)

Any specific Leupold mid-range scopes you would suggest? I've mostly been a red dot/Elcan/ACOG guy up to this point, so longer range scopes are NOT my area of expertise.

A 2.5x10 NXS - but then it’s a little outside your price range.
Scrimp a little more for it?

The PST is ok at the pricing it was at ($650-700), but not at $900-1000

Maybe a Leopold Mk IV?

Consider the Vortex PST 2, 1-6x 24mm. Basically a little brother to the Razor HD II, but with a 30mm tube and slightly lesser glass. It shares all of the same great features for half the MSRP ($999.00), including a daylight bright red dot that doubles as a Reflex optic on the 1x setting. I put one on my SIG MCX and it is a terrific mid-range scope in terms of performance and price. Far superior to the Strike Eagle, etc for just a bit more cash.

costs $2K.....

Thats a mid range option :) I was in the same boat when looking at my 102 build all the 1K options that are availible didnt fit the build. So I saved up for a few more months and got it.

Don't think you understand. I'd rather spend $600 on a AR and spend $2k on an optic. You can't hit what you can't see.

Can't see what your hitting if you can't afford to buy
ammo, you can group with a mid range optic better then you will with a bull#### rifle and a crappy barrel and an expensive optic.

Bushnell AR Optics 3-9x40 Riflescope w/ Drop Zone 223 Reticle.
Buy that and then start saving some pennies for a serious scope.

Cheers,

So you're saying a $6xx M&P15 Sport II is a bull#### rifle with a crappy barrel?
