The Suomi fired from an open bolt and the tnw soumi fires from a closed bolt so there was no need of a hold open on the original and tnw did not add one to the new ones .
That sucks!! I think I'm going to TIG my soumi to night !!
Well, to counter the bad news (lets hope it doesn't change for me), I had my Suomi out for the first time today and fired about 150 rounds through it. 2 fail to feeds, but both had picked up the cartridge and didn't quite have enough steam to get it all the way out of the stiff mag. A quick rack solved the problem cleanly. I attribute this to stiff parts and mags.
Drum mag worked perfectly, was really fun to shoot.
One stick mag was pinned too tight, holding only 5 instead of 5.5, so it would not seat on a closed bolt. The other 3 stick mags were fine.
Overall positive.

Thats more than just the barrel falling off, it's the entire front filler and end of the receiver complete with the locking lugs FFS !
The way Suomi's were designed the lever on the filler when swung downwards releases the barrel shroud allowing it and then the barrel inside to be withdrawn from the gun. What you have is nothing like a Suomi. You have been well and truly shafted, get your money back and buy a proper smg !

A lot of changes needed to be made for it to go from open bolt to closed bolt.

A Suomi SMG is a top quality piece of engineering , what he has is a joke.

Wow! That looks to be a huge problem for failure on these rifles. What's the best fix for this? I take it that tig would be the proper weld and could you weld all the way around there? The barrel and shroud are very heavy and two little welds holding all that on is a joke.
I have heard that TNW are tinkerer guns and now I know why. I have one but have not shot it yet and may not until I address this apparent weakspot in the rifle. Still a very cool rig though.

TNW's have a reputation as tinkerer guns (hello belt feds) Many of them have needed some work to work reliably but if you know this going in it's not so big a deal especially when you consider that they are firearms that are gererally prohibited here as full auto's.
The suomi was an open bolt full auto sub machinegun, new semi auto receivers were built and original parts modified for closed bolt semi auto operation only. The firearms are now firing in a way they were never designed to and that can cause problems unfortunately. This is not an excuse however for crappy and inadequate welds but it is an easy fix. You end up with a legal non restricted rifle that looks like a sub machinegun that would otherwise be prohibited!
Score in my opinion but I also like tinkering with firearms and not everybody does. So these TNW guns are not for everyone. I can't wait for the PPSH to become available, I have a drum mag waiting for these to show.

Why would that be a main problem? The only difference for the Canadian market is the 18.5 inch barrel as opposed to the 16 inch US legal model. Other than that they are the same as built by TNW.
