I know many of us are using the M2 or the versamax for 3 gun, action shotgun, I have both, but is anyone using the SBE2, from what I understand sbe2 is just the M2 in 3.5inch chamber? or am I wrong?
bbb

I'm running SBE2 for IPSC Shotgun. The gun action is similar to m2, but parts are different. E.g. m2 has solid receiver and in sbe2 top receiver cover is part of the barrel, sbe2 has longer lifter, but on the other hand it is exact the same lifter as Versamax has... Subjectively gun cycles a bit slower than m2, probably because of the longer bolt travel.

good info what mag ext are you using? Nordic? is it the same as the M2 mag ext?

oww and

Well, Google it for the pictures, it is the same gun as many others like that... pauls did competition tuning of my sbe2 and he also works on m2 and few other ones.

Yes, it is Nordic. I just put my +4 tube I've used on my old 510 pump and it made exactly 5 of 3 1/2 rounds on SBE2, just different nut.

I use a SBE II with 26" barrel for 3-gun and although it is not the latest fad gun, I think it is the perfect gun. The front stock is already relieved for quick reloads, it has a generous mag well to feed the larger shells, and is the fastest 3.5" autoloader out there. At least according to Benelli propaganda and Tom Knapp. I welded the prongs on the carrier, added the larger buttons and bolt handle and extended mag tube from tac star. It is not as gucci as Nordic but works perfectly. If you plan on ghost loading, you need to weld up the little notch on the bottom of the bolt. That gives you 7+1+1. That was put there after 1991 to prevent duck hunters from ghost loading an extra round. I can post a couple pictures with permission.

Ok since you asked for pictures from a previous poster I took the liberty of showing my SBE II and the bolt modification. I am not a professional welder.

They work well. I haven't felt the need to open up the loading port on mine since it was so big already, but I did get my lifter welded and the other usual go-fast modifications.

I just got my inertia spring changed out so I'll be interested to test fire it and see what if anything that has done to cycling time and reliability with low recoil slugs in the cold.

Low recoil slugs work just fine in warmer temperatures with a stock gun, but when it gets down to single digits you can have issues. So far I have just switched to standard velocity slugs when it gets colder, which works fine and only slows me down very slightly.

Inertia or recoil spring?
There shouldn't be a need to replace the inertia spring unless you have very very high round count.
There isn't a difference between the M2 and SBE inertia spring in the bolt carrier.

So Wadaya think Simon ? Pick up a good used SBE and chop the barrel and re choke it. Anything longer than 20 " will clear the mag tube. Then do a killer Cerakote finish and you're in business. Be warned though, it was about an hour long job at least removing the camo finish and base coat in the blast cabinet. The stocks were the worst. Good luck.

Sorry, I meant to say the recoil spring.

Other than allowing ghost loading, how does this change the operations/features that come from factory?

It doesn't. It just allows the bolt to go forward without raising the lifter, so you can float a found on the lifter with the bolt closed.

So the notch shown in the first bolt pic is stock and the second picture is where you have filled and filed it flush?

Correct. When dropping the "extra" shell on the lifter, place it slightly forward. I find if you jam it to the rear, it tends to jam up the action. I just shot Maverick's three gun a couple weeks ago and never had one jam. Function was 100 % and I use fairly light target loads. I think I said jam a few too many times. Sorry.
