So, partly financed by Birthday financial contributions, I finally bit the bullet (so to speak), and went and dropped $319 on a Ruger MkIII 22/45, the BASIC version with fixed sights, and a 4.5" barrel.

Well, the wife and I had to test it in a rush (on the way out of town for a few days), so zipped about 250 rounds of mixed manufacturers' high velocity, standard velocity, low noise subsonic, hollowpoints and round nose through it, as fast as we could load magazines....

One failure to feed with a HP round, that nose-dived on the top of the magazine, but otherwise - Flawless!

Reasonably accurate, fun as all heck...

And I spent like $8 on a rnage session, instead of about $100 on .45 ammo!

Another trip up to the range today - Can't wait!

:)

I've found the bulk federal stuff (525 pack from canadian tire) feeds extremely well in my 22/45

....same here, and at about $16/box it's a pretty good deal to boot!

Enjoy your new HG.

I'm thinking of picking this very same model up sometime in the next little while... they look like very fun little pistols :D

. how do you like the grips? I almost bought one awhile ago but didn't like the feel of it.

I like the grip angle but I do find the grip thin. A forum member was looking to change/thicken the grip....wonder how it turned out.

The grips do feel a little cheapo, and for one such as myself, blessed with the fingers every gynecologist dreams of having, there's not a whole lot to hold onto... But, with the almost non-existant recoil of .22, I find I shoot the little thing just fine!

Thanks for the tip.. Gotta remember that when I take my spankin' new 22/45 MkIII 4.5" out for it's first test drive... ;)

Just a few items to really add too the enjoyment of your Ruger.

* Hougue grips
* Lots and lots of mags
* Ultimate mag loader

You can tweak that pistol till it's just right for you....rebuild it and make it that much better or just leave it alone and shoot the guts out of it. Out of all the pistols I've owned the Ruger MKII is my favorite and IMO one of the best .22 pistols out there. Just don't do what I did and get yourself a 6 7/8 bullbarrel and scope it ....incredibley boring shooting as it just hits deadcenter time and time again, automatic.

Want to give your 22/45111 a sweet 2 1/2 to 3 pound trigger job. Drop in a Volquarsen sear for $22.00CDN, including shipping www.rimfiresports.com These guys are real fast at filling orders and it should arrive with in a week. Lots of great rebuild ideas for any Rugers on this site.

My Avatar picture is 10 shots off hand at 25 yards after installing this sear into my 22/45111.

My only complaint about the gun is the tiny grips. OK for smaller hands, but to small for me.

You can slip a handall grip sleeve on them to beef up the grip a bit. I've had mine for a couple years now (22/45MkII) and it's great. Likes the Blazers, and at $11 a brick around here, makes me smile:)

Yeah, they are alot of fun aren't they. I picked up the MarkIII Standard and like the fact that i can do alot of shooting for very little cost.

Just had my brand new 22/45 out to the range for the first time last weekend. Didn't have a single problem shooting the Federal Bulk pack. A fun little gun, Just check your front site every once and awhile because mine came loose a couple times

+1 on the Sear.. I dropped in the VQ sear, and you would not beleive the difference.. takes it down to a nice clean and crisp 2 lbs..!! just what the 22/44 needs

I recently got the 5.5" 22/45 MkIII. It's a fantastic pistol and a hell of a lot of fun to shoot. I'd recommend it to anyone that wants a fun, cheap pistol to shoot. I've put the CCI Blazers and Stingers through it without any problems, I've got some Thunderbolts to try out next time.
Thanks for posting the rimfiresports link. I'll have to look into getting one of those sear kits now... :D

Yes, loctite. :D

Remove front sight and clean all the oil up, including the threads of the screw. Use a q-tip to clean the thread hole inside in the barrel. Apply blue loctite, let sit 24 hours.

Just picked up a MKIII Hunter in June. Love it!

I can do a ton of shooting for next to nothing, and it eats anything!

I plan on changing the grips, sear and possibly putting a red dot sight on it...
