"Super grade" sks . Bad joke ?

Most of the latest imports are from Russia. The earlier, jewel like SKS's were coming from Ukraine before the fighting. It's not just Cabela's, I've seen other stores advertising "super grade" SKS's that wouldn't have made it into a crate coming from Ukraine in the first place. Makes me glad I started buying them when I did.

I will add another vote for Weimajack, unless you have a time machine and can go back a few years and look through crates by yourself, he has as nice an example of the SKS as you will find, and is great to deal with. Haven't bought an SKS from Corwin, but did pick up a Polish M44 and some other items and they were great to deal with as well.

I went with a Chinese SKS when Marstar still had them because I wanted something that was unused. I still don't know what to look for collector wise on SKSs

If you or slimegreencat do want to know what to look for in a nice Russian SKS, Curtton made a very helpful pictorial that was stickied "Russian SKS45 FAQ" or something close to that, about fourth or fifth sticky in this section.

Buying Milsurps is like buying fruit or dairy products at the grocery store. The past the "sell by date" and bruised stuff is the same price as the stuff just off the truck. The oldest milk is always at the front of the cooler for the people who don't care or who are too lazy; you have to put some effort in to reach for the freshest.

If you want a really nice Mosin or SKS it is better to shop in person. Some Canadian Tire stores have a very good selection and are worth a try before resorting to on line purchases.

I walked in and bought a "supergrade" SKS from Cabelas in Calgary about 3 weeks ago.... they wanted $300 dollars for it! :0 BUT i looked it over and it is by far the cleanest SKS ive ever seen :D All matching, laminate stock, perfect blueing, no scratches, dents, rust or cosmoline. The only flaw was the safety didnt have a spring, which ive heard tends to be the case with certain years for the SKS.

It shoots great, handles terribly (like all stock SKS's do... IMO) I plan to keep this one stock though and have it as an investment; and use it as a comparison model against modified SKS's for youtube videos...

Couldnt be more close to the truth ! ^

I wouldn't buy a milsup over the Internet from big box stores. I would buy either in person if I can pick one or try reputable dealers who know what they are selling - like Westrifle, Corwin etc.

Cabelas is at best a so so place to shop when in a pinch
! I prefer Wholesale sports to cabellas and you don't have to hear the annoying children playing with those POP gun things.... That alone has stopped me from shopping there lol..
Oh and ya an SKS from Corwin Arms ? You can't go wrong with them
They are awesome to deal with !

Punctuation ?? Really ? This is a Internet forum , not a novel . Wow ! Bet you were in the book club in school right ?

Well I can see you clearly want our help with that kinda attitude! You are lucky you didn't get flamed and ignored by everyone after that comment.

While this may be the internet, we still use English here. And sometimes French. And it both of those languages, you do not put a space BEFORE every punctuation mark... If you expect us to read your 500+ word post, how about you try to make it easier for us to read.

Oh another one of these guys . Pretty sure I didn't get flamed or ignored by everyone cuz most people aren't that anal and could care less about punctuation . Yes I speak English and I'm pretty sure my spelling was fine . Punctuation ? Who cares . I don't and if that is enough of a reason to ignore or flame somebody than go ahead . Flame away !! Do normal people actually bother with proper punctuation when your typing quickly on your phone ? Do you proof read your texts on your phone too ? Jeez get a life .
In case your super technical and highly complicated and overly critical brain doesn't understand the word "cuz" I used in my post . It's short for "because" . There ya go smart guy . Flame away

To all the other posters. Thanks I appreciate all the info . I went to cabelas yesterday to exchange the gun and looked at a bunch more "super grades" and all were just as sad as mine .. Some worse . So after deciding to just get my money back, I then had to wit for a manager to ok it on the till . After waiting and waiting and then talking to another customer about sks' he told while these were kinda crappy examples .. They really weren't horrible . He couldn't say enough about how fun they are to shoot . I decided I was sick of standing there waiting and if I got my money back id have wait to get another gun elsewhere. I said screw it and took my same gun and left . I figured I may have paid too much based on its condition .. But oh well.. it'll still be a fun and cheap to shoot gun and that's why I bought it . I'll shoot the hell out of this one and get to know them . If I like it I will search out another nicer one and buy that too .
Lesson learned. I won't buy another sks from a box store .
That's for all the info . Now to strip this old beast down and clean it up .

Poor grammar, punctuation and sentence formation speaks volumes.

Does it really ? What if someone is dyslexic or has some type of learning disability ? Are they not able to participate on Internet forums ? Does poor punctuation and grammar .. Or even spelling actually offend you ? Like I said to the other guy . Get a life .

It does matter...and please don't insult people here. You just may get reported and be put in a pink dress.

Well I say it doesn't matter . So who are you ? Maybe if it's so hard for you to understand a post without perfect punctuation and grammar than just skip over it and don't reply or comment .
And I don't recall insulting anybody . But your guys nit picking about this crap I do find insulting . Move along to another post . It seems only you one other anal control freak are concerned about it . So just stay it if it . How about that .
The rest of the replys were helpful and paid no attention to this trivial crap .

Well, you insulted two members by telling them to "get a life" during your angry, defensive and confrontational tirades.
Over what? Being called out on your poor punctuation? Rather than owning up to it you lash out and make excuses for yourself instead.
You won't last long here with that hair trigger of yours...

Oh shut the f**k up. Sounds like a facebook group full of teenagers in here.

Any SKS advertised as supergrade should automatically result in the seller getting field goal kicked in the nuts. Only an idiot would rate them alongside fine firearms.
