Any first hand experience with this powder? Just got 3lbs of it and wondering if anyone is getting good results and in what cartridges. Looked at some data and it showed good velocity in some applications but more interested in hearing what people have to say.

I've used in in the 7X57 with a 175 bullet, and found that in the 7X57 its burn rate is between Re19 and Re22, and slightly faster than H4831.

Well not that anyone cares, but I tried Superformance in a 20" bbl 284 with 140g interlocks today. Gave great speed and the best accuracy I have gotten with 140g bullets in this rifle so far (this gun normally hates 140g bullets). Used 280 data off the Hogdon site and worked up. Velocity was as good or better than R17 and h4831.

I did try it in my 30-06, alongside re-17 and h4350. Re-17 had better velocity, and I didn't notice pressure signs when I should have. It is quite a scary powder, especially if one does not have a chrony. Superformance had decent velocity, just a bit better than h4350, but accuracy was not great. Very clear pressure signs though. H4350 was easily best for accuracy, and getting decent velocity. These were all with hornady brass, and 165 ttsx bullets seated .06 off lands. This was all out of a finnlight, I think with 20 or 21 inch barrel.

Your right R17 is a scary powder. I used some in a 270 the other day and had a very big velocity jump and an ejector mark with an increase in one grain of powder. I used some in a 308 and got great speeds with 208g bullets but stopped using it due to it being scary in the 308 as well.

What powder are you calling "Super Performance?"
Is it Hybrid 100, Super Form or LVR? For 30-06 class rifles it must be one of the first two mentioned.
I have tried the "Maximum" load, 36.3 grains, shown by Hodgdon's for a 30-30 of LVR with 170 grain bullet. They show velocity of 2330 and with my 22 inch bolt action 30-30 I got 2260, which is about as high as you can get with normal loads in a 30-30 and 200 to 250 fps faster than most 30-30 loads shown in modern loading books.

In my case (no pun intended), the velocities I was getting with re-17 were too high for me to think there was no overpressure issue occurring, yet I saw no pressure signs on the case. No ejector flow, no casehead swelling, no cartridge length growing, nothing. I stopped loading higher. The velocity was nice, but the accuracy wasn't really there anyway.

Superformance powder is a bit of a mystery to me yet. I read a magazine article that said there are 3 different superformance powders. A more recent article said 8 . Is Hodgdon blending different powders for different applications? Seems weird that you could use the same powder for everything from a .17 Hornet up to 300 mag?
