Support You Sport

Hey there Grumpy,
Some thoughts and observations. I applaud the initiative of what your trying to accomplish and I do agree with you.
Even though we are trying to support out sport, for an outsider not familiar with firearms there is probably nothing more scary then a man holding a rifle saying lets organize. Haha.
My grandparents grew up on farms and had brothers fight in the wars. That said we never feared firearms and we grew up around them. We were taught firearms safety early on and I started off shooting a BB gun at phone books in my basement when I was young. The point of all this is people fear what they don't know. Education is the only way to show people how responsible gun owners are taught and all the hoops we have to jump through to get a license. Some how we have to educate the general public. I liked the remark you made that " you don't have like the shooting sport, but don't have to be scared that I am in the shooting sport" well said!
The last point I want to make is if we are going to put something together who is going to take on the responsibility of leading such a group? Would the NFA show more of a public side as well as political? I don't know. I would nominate you for a public speaker/trainer.

Keep up the good work, we are all in this together. There is no way in going to a single shot rifle! Haha.

One hundred percent with you on this Mr Wolverine.

I would be more than willing to help in whatever way I'm able.

We as firearms owners must coalesce and become of one mind and one United body that will function effectively.
As wolverine said our focus at this juncture in time should not so much be to ram our point of view down people's throats and change them into pro gunners, but rather try and change the public perception of what and who a gun owner is in Canada and hopefully at least get them to become less anti gun.

We are your neighbors, your fathers, your mothers, your doctors, your lawyers, your mechanics, your school teachers, your police officers.....
We are firearms owners.
We are Canadians.

A good battle plan always includes a hearts and minds component and I believe social media is a good place to begin.

Weren't the Liberals promising to sign Canada on to EVERY small arms reduction treaty they can find? If that's the case, they don't have to ban anything because our "international obligations" will do the dirty work for them.

Firearm owners need to work together

Here is a little video we put together right after the election.

More so now than ever Canadian Firearms enthusiasts need to get organized, get united and so Canadians that we
aren't something to be feared, not something to be targeted and most of all we are just the people next door.

Good video, rational , but how do we get it done, too many groups already out there, problem is little unity with a single voice, I,ve been at this game for over 25 years

Do you mind if I share this on the internet?

Ill take that CZ off your hands too lol

Very well put, especially the stop fightiing amongst ourselves. Hear that Mr bolt action ? just because i was using a black rifle. We cant afford to be Fudds about anything

Well Expressed!!

If under a conservative government and in Alberta the RCMP acted illegally in High River forcefully and without cause entered our homes and seized our property what would happen now that we have a Liberal Government

I say we must unite and better organize or the next home the RCMP could illegally forcefully enter without cause could be the home of anyone of us.

It is unfortunate that out firearm associations are not as active or influential as they must be, So what should we do more than just introduce ourselves to our MPs

I would like to see our Firearm associations hold organized events with Liberal ministers and MPs to help introduce them to us the gun owners and Gun business owners
I would also like them to hold organized events to introduce our Liberal MPs and ministers to the sport in general,

The events could be a shooting competition or a town hall meetings and not just in Ottawa or Toronto but all around the country in every community.

MPs and ministers will attend because they are self serving and looking for potential voters supporters and party contributions $$$

These events could also be paying events for us and member recruitment opportunities for the associations and contribution events for the MPs and their parties. I am sure someone more qualified than I can start working on a business case for these events.

Let us make sure that the associations that are representing us are doing their bit as well.

My sentiments exactly.

The game for me started seriously around the age of 15, thats 42 years now and and counting.

Just FYI, the Liberals did not "start the whole go around the first time". It were the Red Tories under Mulroney and Campbell who started it in the early 90's (Bill C-17); the Liberals simply picked up the torch. It's important that we don't forget our history, as there is a very real danger that the Red Tories will rise yet again and we end up with someone like Rempel or MacKay at the helm of the CPC.

Hey Inky good to hear from you!

I know exactly what you are saying, but as much as I agree that we need one strong firearms advocacy group, I also think that we need to have other organizations jump onto the band wagons as well.
There are lots of sporting groups that need to approach this from their own angle as well. The local wildlife and rod and gun associations. We need every voice we can get involved.
If you can get your grandmother's local knitting club to voice their opinion on the shooting sports, so much the better.

We have spent so much time fighting each other over the years we have allowed our differences to be the strength of the anti's. We also lost sight of the fact that people being scared of firearms, as strange as it sounds to us, isn't funny and isn't something we should discount. We also lost sight that Canadian have a different mindset compared to our American brethren and concealed carry and home protection aren't something that the average person, even some gun owners understand the need for here in the great white north.
We need to "win the hearts and minds" so to speak.

The onus is also upon the Canadian firearms business community to get OUR act together, to get organized and to fight the fight on our front too. We need to pool our resources and our talents and come together. this is something that we here at Wolverine supplies are working on and have already spoken to some other dealers and more to come.

We also need to get other non-firearms businesses involved. Local eating establishments that benefit from our matches and events. Hotels etc.

No matter how strong we feel about certain aspects of our sport and what we would like to see, we need to temper it with the reality that if we wish to continue with our sport, then we have to be smart, work smart and understand those who will make the difference to our sport....our neighbours, friends and fellow Canadians.

We need to make these people aware as well that it is not the job of the police and RCMP to make policy and to make laws. That would make us a police state and it goes against what Canada stands for. When you are discussing this will people put things into terms they can understand. I got a couple of people onto our page this weekend but using their love of golf. I told them to imagine that their favourite clubs were now illegal for reasons that made no sense and they would have to surrender them with no compensation or recourse or face being a criminal. That got them thinking. Sounds a little lame right? Well know what..it worked. I got an email from one saying he had looked into a lot of what I had talked about and was surprised that we have so much in the way of gun laws now. Does he want to become a shooter...no...but he is not anti gun anymore.

With posts like yours no wonder there is division in the camp. Terms like "Mr. Bolt" action and "Fudds" cause more division/ issues then words spoken by any anti gunner. You want everyone united how about loose the derogatory labels.
