Good video, rational , but how do we get it done, too many groups already out there, problem is little unity with a single voice, I,ve been at this game for over 25 years
Hey Inky good to hear from you!
I know exactly what you are saying, but as much as I agree that we need one strong firearms advocacy group, I also think that we need to have other organizations jump onto the band wagons as well.
There are lots of sporting groups that need to approach this from their own angle as well. The local wildlife and rod and gun associations. We need every voice we can get involved.
If you can get your grandmother's local knitting club to voice their opinion on the shooting sports, so much the better.
We have spent so much time fighting each other over the years we have allowed our differences to be the strength of the anti's. We also lost sight of the fact that people being scared of firearms, as strange as it sounds to us, isn't funny and isn't something we should discount. We also lost sight that Canadian have a different mindset compared to our American brethren and concealed carry and home protection aren't something that the average person, even some gun owners understand the need for here in the great white north.
We need to "win the hearts and minds" so to speak.
The onus is also upon the Canadian firearms business community to get OUR act together, to get organized and to fight the fight on our front too. We need to pool our resources and our talents and come together. this is something that we here at Wolverine supplies are working on and have already spoken to some other dealers and more to come.
We also need to get other non-firearms businesses involved. Local eating establishments that benefit from our matches and events. Hotels etc.
No matter how strong we feel about certain aspects of our sport and what we would like to see, we need to temper it with the reality that if we wish to continue with our sport, then we have to be smart, work smart and understand those who will make the difference to our sport....our neighbours, friends and fellow Canadians.
We need to make these people aware as well that it is not the job of the police and RCMP to make policy and to make laws. That would make us a police state and it goes against what Canada stands for. When you are discussing this will people put things into terms they can understand. I got a couple of people onto our page this weekend but using their love of golf. I told them to imagine that their favourite clubs were now illegal for reasons that made no sense and they would have to surrender them with no compensation or recourse or face being a criminal. That got them thinking. Sounds a little lame right? Well know what..it worked. I got an email from one saying he had looked into a lot of what I had talked about and was surprised that we have so much in the way of gun laws now. Does he want to become a shooter...no...but he is not anti gun anymore.
