Suppressors?

It does not matter if you refer to then as a suppressor or a silencer... although suppressor is the correct terminology as it suppresses the sound... nothing can silence the sound...

And suppressors/silencers are simply prohibited in Canada. Any built in or attached device that reduces the sound level is prohibited.

About the stupidest law in Canada... they make us use and maintain mufflers on vehicles to reduce the annoying sound... but with ear damaging noise from firearms we can not muffle them.
 
I like the one Simpsons episode where he puts a loudener on the end of his rifle. That’s what we need to do make our guns so loud it shakes windows in house’s 20 miles away. Then they might get it and let us REDUCE the sound of our earth shattering rifles.

Back when we could still use them, the fun thing to bring to the range to annoy-the-guy-annoying-you was a short-barrel AR with a brake on (or a 6.5" shotgun shooting full power slug)... The noise and rattling would just put a smile on my face!
- For the record, I'm usually a pretty agreeable/respectful guy, but if you come over and "complain" that the revolver is making a lot of noise... I cannot help but want to set-the-bar higher for "a lot of noise" :p

As for air rifle, I guess we should count our blessing, as sleeved barrel are still tolerated :rolleyes:

My range for yrs was open a door, but that has nothing to do with suppressers.

BTW back in the day there where some Gamo 1200f/s with "suppressor" , sort of on the end, that made it into the country, before the RCMP sent out some bulletins.
It was a piss poor gun, too fast, and still quite loud.
It had a bunch of plastic pellets in the business end, no baffles . Over all the poorest air gun I ever shot.
I have a Crossman pump up air pistol that I could do just as good with.

Heck not even 9 years ago, their are topics on a Canadian airgun forum about suppressors or moderators /muzzle brakes as they called it. Same mods then and nobody freak out, It wasn't that big of a deal. Funny how things have changed. Even a Canadian dealer advertises muzzle adapters for LDC, doubt for American buyers.

Most air guns make a Canadian import version (except go figure we can’t have bullpup ones.

I have an FX M3 and it just came with a straight barrel instead of a baffled barrel.
 
Sounds good, tell Justin lol. I Learned fire arms safety in Army cadets 50 years ago and Im all for young people getting some basic training.

How about an actual product. The SHM one isn't available anymore but ALG makes single chamber brake that is pretty obnoxious.

It doesn't say built in or attached. So technically, shooting through (or even possessing) a tunnel of tires is illegal. So is the pillow used by movie assassins.

Hiram Percy Maxim would disagree with you on the semantics of the name :p

But yes, incredibly stupid regulations. Suppressors/silencers (I also prefer the word suppressor), are a very worthwhile health & safety device. It's a shame that Canada is one of the few first world western nations that doesn't seem to recognize that.

I agree 100% with this. I have seen it first hand. Even lack of safety when at the range. Not saying all but it does not guarantee that they are any better than Joe off of the street. There are good and bad ones everywhere.

My question for the military folk is, does the military provide a CFSC? Or is it up to the individual to get that on there own time and money?

This is the same with the police forces in Canada. No PAL/RPAL required.
 
I can't speak for others, but I know when I was in... I wouldn't have had the patience/ consideration/ desire to deal with Joe-Blow-Public when it comes to firearm safety.

Weird, in Qc. Anyone wanting to go to the police academy needs to have a valid RPAL.
- I would have thought that they'd be require to maintain it? I'll have to ask the next I bump in a officer.
 
Only read the last page of this thread, so it may have been covered-off...but petition E-575 was tabled a couple of years back, re: "sound moderators". If you Google E-575, you'll also see the government's response. Over 11,000 signatures from people wanting to have a discussion about the topic, and Jody's response was basically suggesting that if you want a sound moderator, you must have criminal intent.

How dare Canadians even ask the question. Guess you can't expect reason/facts from a government that runs on misinformation and fear mongering.

Wow, I just that shocking that if accepted into the services be it Police or Military it is not required. It should not shock me though.

No wonder I roll my eyes on a regular basis at the store. Unreal how many people we are quick to put thru the CFSC and let out into the world with firearms. I am sure for some instructors it is a cash grab but for others.....well maybe a cash grab as well.
