I built a custom muzzle brake modelled after a 7.62 Surefire SOCOM, but with a .375” bore and threaded in 1/2-28 (9mm/.38/.357) I wanted to put a warden on it, to try and redirect some noise away from the shooter. I found a 5.56 trainer at a good price and thought it would be just as functional as the warden, just a few inches longer. Turns out the second largest diameter on Surefire muzzle brakes varies from 7.62 (0.915”) and 5.56 (0.900”) brakes. Obviously, the 5.56 trainer does not fit on 7.62 brakes.
Does anyone have the ability to accurately measure the ID of a 7.62 trainer, or a warden, and maybe photograph it, to highlight what the difference might be compared to a 5.56 trainer? My understanding is the warden and 7.62 trainer will fit on both sized brakes. Is the 0.015” difference in bushing size made irrelevant by the taper shoulder to the largest diameter on the brake?
If I’m not describing it well, I’ll try to photograph what I’m speculating.
