Surface care for NEA receivers

NEA uppers and lowers are anodized with some pretty rough texture compared to other AR's I've owned, plus it's lighter colored. Now, I don't care if they look spic and span when they are my property as long as they shoot straight, but I borrowed an NEA upper from a buddy (to shoot a match) so I wanna make sure it's returned clean enough to eat off, which would involve a blast with carb cleaner as well. Carb cleaner leaves these white swirls as it displaces the oils, so I wanted to check if lightly oiling the upper and wiping it down after the cleaning will affect it negatively in any way. I know the finish won't have issue with clp, but I'm more worried about uneven look or it becoming slippery and hard to clean out. Any issues or am I gtg with light oiling?

You're good to go. I find mine darken up nicely when oiled up and have never found them slippery. He will probably get it back and wonder what you did to make it look so nice!
Good luck with the match!

Obligatory NEA bashing: step 1 smash with hammer. Step 2 throw item away. Step 3 buy something that's not NEA. Problem solved.

IMO

I have 3 comments to make on this topic:

1) I own an NEA lower (bought stripped) and an NEA upper (running on another AR), never had problems with them. Right dimensions, they house my moving parts just fine
2) This particular upper is a little out of spec and is not functioning as reliably as CMMG variants of the same system. Whether it's the fit or a firing pin that's a bit too short or a firing pin spring that's too hard, I don't know for sure.. I tried it with a competition setup of my s3g trigger, with a milspec lower and with a franken-configuration and it's still not something I'd take to shoot matches with
3) It's a borrowed object and I like to return those as good or better as when given to me. While smashing it with a hammer might not harm the reliability, chances are it would mar the finish

I'm sorry, but somebody had to do it! :)
