Surplus HP ammo at the range...

Well it depends if JP measured the group center to center or if he did extreme spread. It's easier to measure the extreme spread and then deduct the bullet diameter to calculate the group size than guessing center to center directly with the caliper w/o any decuction afterward.

By the way one MOA is 1.047" @ 100 yards, 2.094" @ 200 yards and so on. Meaning that the 10 shots @ 200y group shown in the picture is actually .961 MOA

Great shooting JP

Out of an average of how many targets would you come to this conclusion? And this one is most probably a single one-off versus any kind of average of X plural value.

That extra bit of embellishment seems to be the norm' right here.

Sorry, I am not on JPs cheerleading squad.

Go JP Go JP Go!!!

First time at the range with my new surplus HP 74 Berdan...
This ammo is the best surplus i ever shot...
I was getting 3-3.5 inch groups at 200 yards with my Bushmaster XM-10...
With my FNAR i was grouping 2- 2,5 inch 10 shots groups at 200 yards.
Finally we can shoot accurate surplus without breaking the bank, picture up when Photobucket allowed it...

250 round full reliability, this stuff is hot.
Life is super good... JP.:dancingbanana::dancingbanana::cool:

Don't know how many targets he shot, as I wasn't there. Supposedly 250 rounds were fired through the FNAR & XM-10 combined that day. He stated that he was getting 2-2.5" groups with the FNAR so that probably means that he repetedly shot the pictured group at multiple targets right there, no? :nest:

Anyway, the point is that if the FNAR was able to drive 10 rounds into 2" or so @ 200y with Marstar's 7.62x51 NATO HP surplus (that's, what were talking about here), no matter who shot it, it's obviously one of the best surplus we've had in a very long while... End of story.

You do the maths yourself, squares are one inch, the picture is big enough for you to almost calculate it off the picture, when you post a target you will post the best one, many were 1.5 MOA + but this one made my day, this ammo if the operator do is part will deliver this kind of accuracy... I dont need hairy ones for my cheerleading squad, only pink and ###y.... JP:rolleyes:

There seems to be a lot of anal retentive people here. Nice shooting!

SA NM M1A going open sight for HP testing...

Next week, i will bring my new NM ( only 50 shots so far in it ) this morning completly cleaned and greased the beast, also will be taking my ney A1A mags (2) for testing to...
This one i keep open sight for the reason that's the true way to shoot it, later on in the season i will test it for precision with my other one mounted with a S&B scope over a CASM mount...
I will bring a couple hundred rounds and have a M-14 blast...
Keep you posted guys... JP.:)

OK so where are you buying it from????

Marstar or Tradeex have them in stock... JP.

Thanks JP. I see you're calling Hirtenberger HP. I have several crates of that from a few years ago. It is excellent in every way. It is about 3 times as expensive now as to when I picked it up last.

Grab it while you can. The last time it came up for sale it was all gone in 4 months.

I did pick up enough for many years, as i suspect they could be seldom seen after those are gone... JP.

Yesterday at the farm, the twins ( grandkids) 17 years old brought along their DA Socom and we blasted away 240 rounds of HP 74, no failures were obseved and according to Felix and Zack this ammo is wwway better grampa, ( translate from their own words, cute)...
I promise to give them each a 240 pack when they come back to the farm...
Sometime happiness is a package of ammo... Great boys... JP.:)

Well said.

Such a shame a one liner shows up to demolish what one did honestly and generously rather than contributing with a solid discussion, demonstration or helpful/useful info.
Unfortumately, that is life: so many show up to criticize, so few actually do contribute.

JP, make it easier for yourself buddy, just measure same side to same side, which is equivalent to a center to center measurement. :)
Thanks for sharing your findings, so far it sounds like good ammo!
