Survival Seed Kit for the Zombie Apocalypse!

Sorry, I am a farmer and scientist in my day job... Every time I tell someone I run a farm I get asked about the "horrible GMOs" that are "ruining our environment". When companies encourage misinformation and improper labels it leads to a less educated public.

No, sometimes it's necessary to 'talk down' to a public that willfully chooses ignorance. We see it every day.
FYI: $5 shipping to SW Ontario.

Since this is both a seed/food product it would fall under the CFIAs Novel foods section . http://www.inspection.gc.ca/food/la...s/eng/1389379565794/1389380926083?chap=3#s2c3 .
Could also fall under competition bureau legislation but the reality of anyone ever complaining is pretty slim.
There is no zucchini approved for sale in Canada that is GMO and I think the only corn is field corn (very different than sweet corn).
It really irks me when the GMO free label is on things that are not likely to have GMOs in the first place. As gun owners we fight against fake labels and claims about us but then we support these kind of misleading claims. Average joe who reads the "non-GMO" label on your veggie seed now thinks all other veggies are GMO and are bad for some reason.

Sunflowers and beets are also gmo.

Not sunflowers but yes Sugar beets can be but these are not the same as the beets you eat. In Canada only sugar beets, canola, corn, and soybeans are commercially available and approved.
The main point is both GMO and non-GMO foods are safe and healthy so we shouldn't allow marketers to try and sway us either way. Much like we get frustrated with the media's lack of knowledge and unscrupulous use of improper terms to try and make gun owners look bad. This is what farmers put up with on a daily basis but we are told the food we grow is somehow bad.

If this is for the zombie apocalypse, won't you be too busy to worry about GMO's? I mean come on, people... Zombies!

BTW all modern farm crops have been significantly modified from their wild ancestral forms. Get over it.

A lot of the customers we have for the Legacy emergency food are quite particular about making sure that things are non-GMO and we definitely believe in the freedom of people to choose. It certainly is a contentious issue!

So since you're a scientist and all, can you tell me what long term studies have been on GMO foods that proves they are absolutely harmless?

When you say GMO foods are healthy, do you mean that they are safe to inject (and I will leave out suggest connection between GMO foods and cancer and digestive issue aside they're not proven), and all other issues surrounding GMO foods such as environmental impacts and patent issues are essentially not important?

Do you work for Monsanto by any chance?

Damn auto-correct.

Now we are totally off topic.

Monsanto and GMO's are totally different. Monsanto is a criminal that is trying to control the food market by using GMO products. GMO's are simply genetically modified organisms, (dangerous maybe, maybe not. ) I for one am not worried about the product, but the producer Monsanto scares the S%^& out of me.

GMO.....non GMO .....really???.....who cares ..if they store well ...and will grow when you absolutely need them...and will produce their own seed.....then they are a good product.....hands down.....end of story :)

I for one appreciate the products endorsed by ammo supply, as after picking up products and talking with them personally, I am left with the impression that they are a company who believes in what they are selling and are trying to do their best to bring quality products to their customers...

I support them as a local ..and a Canadian company and when I need something....I will check them out first :)

GMO stands for Genetically Modified Organism.
Genes from one organism are introduced into another organism in a lab, to confer some sort of advantage, such as-resistance to disease, ability to grow in harsh environments, etc.
In a way, you could call this "Natural Selection on Steroids". What might take thousands of years to evolve in nature, is done in a lab in a much shorter time.
A lot of folks say this is a bad thing. I don't see how eating a GMO potato or some other fruit or vegetable is going to cause me a problem. You eat the thing, you chew it up, it is digested in your stomach by your stomach acid, you absorb the proteins and carbs from the thing and poop the rest out. You do not absorb genes-the stuff is broken down into base proteins and carbs.
So, I am not sure why people get so excited about GMOs.

If you don't use GMOs, what is the alternative in a world that is rapidly becoming overpopulated, with natural resources coming under strain? You going to use more pesticides? Are people going to like that? No.
How are you going to water your plants in arid climates? How are you going to feed a world population that is ever increasing? I don't think it is possible.
So, you can say no to GMOs and you will see other problems arise-famine, disease, war...will make it that much more likely that the Zombie apocalypse is something that we will actually see!

As far as thinking that GMOs happen only through Man's pissing around with nature, that is also wrong...nature is always messing with things too. Look at HIV...how did that come about? What about Ebola? What about the Black Plague or Influenza or viruses that give you cancer or a host of other nasty things that are out in the world and a bunch more that we have not heard of yet?

We can honestly say that humans have caused a lot of problems on Earth. Now that there are 7 billion of us, we need food, water, space to live and we can only accomplish these things with more and more technology and research and science. The option of "going back to the old ways" is not really an option any more. The lands we farm need to produce more crops per acre, the water we use per acre of farm land is becoming more and more precious every year. If you were to wipe out GMOs tomorrow, the efficiency of world farming would plummet and millions of people would starve. Is that something we would be comfortable with in order to have a GMO free world?

I, for one, would sooner eat GMOs every day for the rest of my life.

:agree:

GMO hybrids are more likely to survive in a post apocalyptic world.
They have been specially selected to survive low-water conditions, resist insects and disease.

What exactly is bad about any of that?

No, lol, I don't work for Monsanto but I have grown corn with their traits in it on my farm.
The scientific principle implies that one can never prove a negative but only a positive. Since GMOs have been approved for use for over 30 years there have actually been many long term studies with the intent to prove harm (many of these done by companies like Syngenta, DuPont, BASF, Monsanto , etc) but none have been successful in proving even a slight link. Add this to the multiple trillions of meals eaten across the world in those 30 years with no side effects and we can be pretty assured of the safety. There is a great website made by Forbes with lots of good info about it if your interested. gmoanswers.com

Sorry for hijacking your thread Kate....

Actually i want a GMO seed pack they are stronger , better resistant to adverse weather conditions , they resist plant illnesses better resist bug attacks better as well and yield better bigger more in general.

Think of golden rice folks...stop being cry baby greenie weenies. lol gmo is a long list of science and history of excellent results that help us feed more for less think of the sunflowers that only grow 3 feet tall instead of 7 feet tall . less fuel consumed to harvest, bigger heads ect ect , gmo corn better resistant to natural plant diseases and mould simply by putting stronger traits from one plant and attaching to the weaker traits of another then breeding out the weaker genes ....its ingenius and has saved millions of lives everywhere. I will order the seed pack that is gmo please ifanyone cand find one i will buy it.

Scotchline originally kicked off the GMO debate by saying that none of the crops included in the seed pack are available as GMOs anyway, so I am not sure you'll be able to find this kind of thing specifically as a GMO product!

Greenies scream unmuzzle the scientists until the science disagrees with them, then it's "think of the environment" emotional appeals.

I for one will ONLY eat GMO foods...

That's my secret to being over 6 feet tall by the time I was 14! Also caveman ate all natural and all organic and they thew rocks at their shadows and died at age 35...

A good "healthy" discussion. Thanks. Actually learned something and bought a bag of seeds. Been looking for something like this to add to my "tinfoil supplies" as my friends like to call it.
