Do you as a regular hunter, despite having ONE tag, take more???
WHY would you ASSUME a sustenance hunter is LESS ethical than YOU are???? They get a TAG. Or a couple of TAGS. It's still a TAG system! If they take more than they have TAGS for, THEY'RE POACHING! Keeryst, what is going through your head when you make these SERIOUSLY absurd statements???
"free cull tags" are EXACTLY what the sustenance hunting program is about! They're just making an effort to give those who are in a bit more NEED than the average person, a chance at one of those tags first.
If people are shooting like you described for Saskatchewan, they're NOT sustenance hunters. THEY'RE POACHERS. It's ILLEGAL to let meat sit & rot here when you hunt. If you do, you're fined & lose hunting privileges. If you hunt MORE than you have tags for, YOU LOSE it.
HINT, if people are shooting for the sake of shooting, they're NOT sustenance hunting... It's being an unethical SOB that deserves a boot in the butt, NOT a murderfest of forest creatures... WHY is it you refuse to see there's a difference, between people who are CLEARLY abusing a system that was set up to be abused, and a system which is HIGHLY regulated, which requires TAGS and is restricted by where you hunt, what you hunt & indeed, WHEN you hunt (aka proper hours, no sundays)... WHY don't you acknowledge the DIFFERENCES that CLOSE those gaps???
What is BS, is that you're essentially INSISTING that sustenance hunters are NOT qualified hunters, DON'T hunt in proscribed ways, are as unethical as a psychopath and kill everything in sight, when NONE of those elements is in evidence... THAT'S what is BS.
Please... CALL the fish & wildlife office. ASK for yourself, LIKE I DID. And for goodness sake, STOP the insults! *I* am one of those people who MAY qualify, for my medical & financial situation. Yet I'm ethical, hunt only those animals I have tags for and ONLY kill those animals I either will eat (Deer, moose, rabbit) or which pose a threat or hazard (gophers for the holes they dig & which injure farm animals, coyotes when ASKED to, by local farmers and the like). AKA I ethically & responsibly hunt. Yet should I get a sustenance license, you ASSUME I would "go nuts" in the woods? Or someone LIKE me would? THAT is a flame & damn insulting.

If you think "sustanance hunters" will take one deer you are sadly mistaken. Rather than start this ridiculous programs the governmnet could simply give out free cull tags for the regular season or possibly extend a season. They do this in Sask. and it seems to work well. I do not know what the particular details of this program will end up being but sustenance hunting is certainly not just about giving a guy a free tag. There are many in Sask now that can "sustenance hunt " in our province and there have been many many abuses of it. I saw six deer in a pile left by so called sustenance hunters that were left to rot. Another aquantance had three deer shot and left to rot in his field because he refused permision to sustenance hunters.
Controlled numbers of free tags may be the answer but certainly not sustenance hunter designation. It may be simply a legal issue but the future implications can be huge. I will shut up for good now about this but my mind is made up. Sustenance hunting designation is pure BS.
