What happened to all the original SVT-40 bayonets? At one time, there must have been one for ever gun, no. And the clips, oops, sorry, magazines, can't seem to find them, either.

That's some great questions... SVT40 bayonets and magazines are as rare or more so than SVT40s themselves! Perhaps they didn't bother making multiple SVT40 mags during WW2, and instead told the troops to reload with Mosin clips instead. Bayonets seemed to be rather important for Russians in WW2 though, so you'd think they'd have kept them with the rifles like with the Mosin Nagants :s

They were melted down to make more modern firearms, tanks, etc...

Kind of like all the cleaning rods, sight hoods, locking screws, and bayonets of the K98's they captured! :(

It is odd, the rifle was issued with a bayo and 3 mags. Where are all the extras? And why do the bayo's cost more than the gun (when you can find them)?

Bayonet, while rare, show up on ebay but they are pricey, peoples say that many of the bayonets "disapear" form warehouse, possibly stolen and ofc many must have been lost as well on the battle field. SVT mag are scare, repro are available but the dealers outside Canada wont pin them to sell here.

They had an SVT 40 with bayo listed for 299.00 . You just have to look around.

After I buy a crate of ammo Im going to buy a bayo....

Not in Mother Russia, they have been destroying obsolete military weapons for many months now sending them to the furnaces by the hundreds of thousands. A few left in the Ukraine, but they will be gone within the next year as depots are emptying quickly.

There is definitely more bayonets than magazines, but that doesn't explain what happened to all the SVT40 rifle slings?

Why are they doing this? you make it sound like they are in a hurry.

United Nations non-proliferation treaty on small arms, mandates the destruction of all obsolete small arms.

Many countries are doing it or have done it, including Canada (we destroyed our FN-C1, FN-C2 ans SMG C-1 a few years ago.

Bayonets were talking as souvenirs by returning troops and every body who can put their hands on it. It is pretty good knife that attaches to rifle.
What can I say communist time everything for every one is free :)
Mags are different story. Simply not enough was made and a lot was lost during war. Plus SVT had short time production and not a lot of spares was made.
