Found this on a Facebook page called "The 54r Group".

Apparently it's a 20rd drum-style mag designed for the SVT/AVT-40 by Bubnov and Skvorco. It was designed in 1943 and subsequently ordered for field trials, but this design produced new types of stoppages in SVT/AVTs.

By the time the issue was resolved, in late 1943, the Soviet military leadership had decided to shift production away from the Tokarev rifle to the simpler Mosin Nagant.

Great! Now I want one. With one of those shiny rivets that lets you only shoot 5 rounds:rolleyes:

That's pretty cool.

Weird looking rig. With the angle its on, a blind man would predict jamming problems. It's a good thing that monstrosity never got past the testing phase, imagine in a trench with that and the Germans coming at ya! :sok2

Why not just lengthen the original?

Ya the mosin was perfect for the Russians it used less ammo. The svt-40 would have dried up the 7.62 x 54r.

It's interesting that in "the book", perhaps the biggest problem with the AVT was development of a successful 15 or 20 round mag. You wouldn't think that would have been a big challenge but something about the longer mags was causing problems. At the end of the day a 10 round auto rifle isn't that useful.

Never mind the mag, how 'bout that rifle! Looks like non refurb sniper. Not sure I've ever seen one.

I was just about to say that. Was surprised no one was saying anything about it until I got to the last post. Also notice how its "In the white." That's probably the nicest example of a SVT-40 I've ever seen. Would love to have it.
