Today I was awaken by the sound of someone beating on my door 3 times, so I threw some PJ pants, and ended up running down my driveway in bare feet shirtless in -4 (-12 windchill) after the mailman. So I got the package signed for, ran back into the house and opened my package.

Sure enough, my SVT from TradeEx exactly one week after I paid for it.

1940 Izhevsk Yada yada. Awesome shape, no arsenal repairs on the stock.

The mag is pinned with a single aluminum rivet.

I loaded it up with a stripper full of five 54R dummy rounds. When you release the bolt the top round just gets jammed and holds the bolt open. The tip of the bullet just hits bellow the opening to the chamber and stops dead.

If I only load one round into the mad than it feeds just fine.
But two rounds, and the thing jams.

When they're more then one round in the mag, for some reason the top round doesn't point up far enough to feed into the chamber. Instead it stays flat and just drives itself bellow the chamber.

Any idears?

One round in the mag, feeds like it should.

Two and she all goes to hell.

Nah, this isn't my first semi. Just pull back and let her go.

That's not the issue, but i wish it was that simple. I suspect it has something to do with the pinning job.

Hi,
i have the same problem with all my svt and mags, but with commercial softpoint ammo and i am unable to find milsurp to try them. I was told it could be a mag fitting issue (on surplusrifleforum). I heard some repro and original mag had to be worked to feed properly. Personnally, i am waiting for milsurp ammo to try them.

Hmm...If i bent the tabs a little, so that they push further down on the rear of the cartridge, than this would bring the front of the round up more possibly solving the issue.

We shall see.

I'd be a little afraid if I was issued this mag in a battle situation!

I had one with the same issue - The rounds didn't center in the mag and the mag didn't seat properly. The mag was force matched to the rifle.

Is the mag seated as far in the wall as it will go? LOL I have NO idea what the proper names for all the little bits are but if there's any play between the parts where the mag catches that could be your issue. I had mine built up a tad with a mig welder and fiddled with the tabs that center the round until it would feed reliably.

I just took a hammer and a pair of pliers (sounds bad, but no damage done) to the two tabs on either side of the mag that hold the shells in. After some manipulation, it's feeding fine. As long as you pull the bolt back as far as it will go and let it slam forward. No pussy footing around, just let the spring do the work.

just like adjusting an enfield mag :D

Haha, hammer and pliers must be a universal thing when it comes to "fixing" mags.

I haven't fired the rifle yet, so hopefully it feeds fine via the gas operation.
