SVT-40/ Possibility being AVT-40

AVT safety/selector would swing to both sides (reason for two notches) even with sear removed. Your rifle is just a standard refurb, using salvaged parts.

None, mine not a standard refurb because I don't have any elecrtopenciling serial numbers, the imported mis-matched SVT-40 needed to have electropenciled serial numbers to force the gun to be numbers matching. My gun is factory stamped numbers, so all original to the gun. Made from the Tula factory in 1943.

I have a couple without electro penciling, too. They're still refurbs, though.

Yup still refurbs, but electropenciling demishes the value. An svt stock with an AVT trigger group thats messed up.

If the safety behind the trigger only swings one way then it's an SVT in an AVT stock, not an uncommon sight. If it swings both ways, it's a prohibited converted automatic and must be turned in for destruction, unfortunately.

More than a few AVTs came in with batches of SVTs over the years. I personally witnessed 1 go rock and roll on an outdoor range. No one seemed more suprised than the owner! Kinda funny actually, the remaining ammo was burned up quickly ;) and the gun was then (apparently) returned to the shop where it was purchased.

I agree that if your rifle was ever an AVT it is now a prohib and should be surrendered to the RCMP. I would then be asking the seller for a replacement!

I bought the gun to turn over my money, now I have no idea after reading all the posts what I have. I've even heard ANY SVT can easily be converted to a automatic weapon. That is why USA isn't importing any more of these guns, and why the price over there is so high. I haven't yet taken the gun apart, which when I ever get a chance will completely strip apart. Shouldn't have bought the damn thing in the first place I guess. That's why Browning slogin is ''THE BEST THERE IS'' darm straight.

The USA banned imports of any and all firearms from Russia and China in the early 1990s, that is why the price is so high.

I think you had better find a new source for info. Your current one appears to be a mouth breathing, knuckle dragging doofus.

God damn that cracked me up - you're much more blunt then me, but I was thinking the same thing lol lol lol

As others have said, the AVT stock shows up on lots of SVT40 rifles. I bought a Sniper (with the notch in the back) that showed up with an AVT naval stock. By the way the rifle looks like it sat in the factory completely unused. The trigger is even tough like a brand new gun, not like my others. Bluing looks new too.

The SVT40 is a fun rifle to shoot, and neat to collect. There are a lot of variations that's for sure. From brakes, to stocks, to factory of manufacture.

so much fail in your post not even funny. clip-mag/steel nose-steel core silver painted bullets

Maybe he is new to the shooting sports and learning? We can't all be born with as much awesomeness as you apparently.

Your post has so much arrogance it's not even funny.....

To the OP, the odds of your rifle being an AVT are slim man, I now own an SVT-40 in a Naval AVT stock and have learned it's not all that uncommon.

These rifles have been refurbed and mismatched something horrible. It sounds to me like you may have a matching refurbished rifle which in itself is not very common but still pretty common. Pretty much the same value as any standard SVT on the market today. Around $280-300 with all accessories and an unchopped mag of course.

If you have an AVT the best way to find out is to take it to the range, flick the safety switch all the way to the right (if it will go) and see what happens when you pull the trigger lol. It would then be a prohibited firearm however unfortunately :(

Hopefully this info was helpfull.

Cheers!

So if I flick the safety all the way to the right and pull the trigger and nothing happenes, is it still a prohibited weapon?
