SVT-40 to SVD Dragunov Build

Incorrigable don't worry about skirsons he played the same song when i announced that I was building a new stock for my mosin nagant. Skirsons is one of those people who feel justified in being rude to people who chose to use thier own property in the way in which they like. I believe that his parents didn't teach him that if he can't think of something nice to say to be quiet. Your project looks great you should be proud .

LOL the OP shouldn't expect universal praise. When I see the desecration of any historical object it's sad. This isn't an online circle-jerk, it's a forum where opinions can be shared. If you can't deal with it, that's your own issue.

I wonder if you could carefully put various sized weights on the ring shaped cocking handle to tune the bolt carrier velocity. I thought about doing this with my sks, but opted for another means as i thought to myself the stem might not be able to hold the extra weight on the end of the cocking handle reciprocating. Maybe a small weight.

I beleive that should it be an issue that there are lead wieghts availible to be epoxied on to make up some of the difference. However I order a SVT wrench from a guy in the state, who incidentally was really good to deal with, am counting on dialing back the gas 1 or 2

Does anyone know if the stock bedding is really solid in the SVT, with the normal stock? Is there any one making custom stocks out there anywhere, or would this be a diy project more or less?

Can't help you here Chico, but there's some better educated in this model that can is my guess

Can someone explain to me why people cry about some modified military rifle while you can buy another one original right away ? Its not like if there is only 1000 svt out there..

He should see what I've done to my precious and rare as hens teeth AR15. Poor boy would have an absolute vibratory coniption fit:D

OP, it looks like the SVD and SVT front sight/FH/bayo lug assemblies should be pretty interchangeable. The depth the barrel goes into one versus the other may be a bit different, but you should be able to get an SVD assembly on there without permanently altering the barrel. As a plus, it'll probably be easier than trying to alter an SVT assembly to look similar.

It was my first option. I spent the first 2 or 3 months just in research and sourcing parts before turning a wheel. Because they can't import the SVD into the States parts are few and far between there as well, to speak nothing of this side of the border. Even with some contacts developed overseas its still hit and miss. The closest I've found is just the flashider, but no bayonet/sight assembly. But its a fluid process and I'm alway open to different options and ideas... unlike some people... bwua hah hah hah

the op wants a dragunov look alike the best way to do it is shop up a 300$ svt who cares theres lots out there unless it was some super rare model. i want a dragunov and i would chop up a svt but i dont have the patience.

time to stop feed ing this troll I think

Skirsons if you want to be rude please go elsewhere. 24 hour campfire would be a good choice. :feedTroll:

Sorry for being rude. Is there a nice way to say "I think your project is a disgrace" ? Why should my opinion cause such a furor? It's a butchery of a historic military rifle that should be appreciated for what it is, not what someone can modify to sorta kinda look like if you blur your eyes and stand back a bit.

skirsons yes there is a nice way

It's called keeping it to yourself. Or you pick something you do like about the rifle like " the stock turned out nice" If there is nothing tht you like then say nothing.

Can we please let the argument die now? Everyone has made their point, no one is happy, and we've successfully proven that gun owners left in a confined space together act like children.

OP - do you only have one source for parts in europe? I'd imagine that SVD parts are something that are rare, but also not much sought after, so knowing the right person would get results. Any European or european frequented gun boards that might be useable? So many people in Europe speak english you might be able to find people to help.

really getting anxious to hear how this is coming... let's see let's see!

I have to wait on two parts as they will dictate the dimensions. After they get here (I'm guesstimating in the next couple of weeks) everything will be in place to make the final cuts. Noone's more anxious than me... I've been staring at the pile thats been building for 3 months now.

Scratch that... the wife is more anxious. She wants the room back:D

If you don't mind sharing please keep all measurements on the sheet metal you are building coz I am interested in building one as well.

I don't care what others might think but if I can't buy it I will build one myself.

Excellant job so far!

Your work looks great

I think that your your rifle looks kickass. please ignore those that cried about you modding a milsurp.
