SVT-40 ####??

This gun has a high round count, stock is shot/cracked/butchered repair job, bluing is worn, safe dings in the barrel and receiver but it still functions good. Magazines are worn through the finish and dented corners. Not sure if they get much tougher shape??
 
wow, what kind of SVT #### thread is this??? If it wasn't for R005t3R this thread would/should be shut DOWN!! shame on you's ;) more ####, less chatter.

Its got nothing to do with being a purist of anything. Its got everything to do with 30 years of watching people devalue their firearms because they think its "cool" or "tacticool". Firearms were designed by Engineers ie: Educated people, or more blatantly put, much more educated than the hack who tried to fix it . There are formulas for mass, balance, percussion, and ballistics that I'd bet a thousand bucks that you don't have the first clue of understanding. This is the very reason why "modified" firearms don't shoot worth a crap and can rarely achieve what the original designs were meant to do, can do, and still do. The next ten owners of a "modified" rifle will be cursing themselves for buying something that some butthead attempted to fix that wasn't broken.

If its got a bad stock, then get an original replacement part. In the firearms world, plastic is a joke, and only jokers buy it.

Purist? No. Common sense? Yes, but I suspect common sense isn't so common in other people's worlds. Do what you want, The value of my firearms just gets higher.
 
OP, please rename this thread to "SVT-40 Drama"

Please guys, if I don't see your SVT-40 pics I will have a FIT. I was planning on buying one of these fine rifles, so I'm looking to get inspired.

I do not have a clue as to what goes into the engineering and planning to make a firearm? Ok buddy here is a news flash, I work for an engineering company, the amount of time I spend doing things in and out of the office would stagger you, I think. The amount of time I spend on turbocad and autocad fixing other peoples ill though ideas as to what should work and what actually functions in the real world is shocking. Also the assumptions passed on by a few in this thread are also perplexing. You have made a misjudgement about me and my intentions. It is not likely anyone is man enough to admit they went off the deep end here. Other than a trigger job I have not said I was looking to permenently alter the gun, no welding/cutting/threading etc. Rather than offer ideas like hey there is a factory sniper scope mount that came on originals and here is some information on it, people would rather flap their gums. The gun could be put to stock in minutes with the ideas I would like to implement so get over it.

Anyone else with any positive input or pics??

Geez once in a while I have to join these stupid drama threads and just say what absolute self-absorbed, holier than thou nutbars we have sometimes. Seriously, does your verbal masturbation make you feel greater than us because you feel that you are the savior of all good and holy in the land of the purist firearm?

What is this? 1940? Who the hell uses wood anymore on anything? Poor ex-commbloc nations? North Korea?
I love good wood stock guns and own a bunch myself, especially good solid milsurps, but this statement just blew your credibility.

Anyways, I was also looking for good SVT pr0n. Not more of this crap which so often frequents this board. Too many holier than thou types with nothing better to do than post self absorbed superiority complexes due to their grumpy old fart idea's that anything not wood stocked, bolt or lever action or costs over double your months mortgage is to be looked down upon, and that they are letting the world know it because they are gods gift to guns.

I bought my first SVT-40 for exactly the same reason. I wanted to make a dragunov clone. After looking this rifle over, I just couldn't do it. I'm not a milsurp collector. Yet these rifles really are fantastic. I bought one as a project and now have 5 of them for shooting and collecting.

A buddy of mine also bought one at the same time to make a dagunov. He also came to the same conclusion and just couldn't do it to his rifle.

Frankly I like these rifles just the way they are. If I want something that I can put any optic on, pistol grip etc then I'll use an AR10 or another rifle.

Any bubba work I'll do to these rifles will be completely reversible. No I'm not one of those no bubba anytime fanatics. I do however have a real appreciation for the SVT-40.

There's a really good thread from a while back with someone here having a Dragunov clone made. It was very well done. I recall it was completely reversable as well. It might be worth doing a search for that thread.

Now for some SVT40 #### from the German side. That's right they loved to capture these rifles. They'd re issue them to their own troops and call them a Sig 259r .

Forget the svd look, do something useful & fire up the various cad programs you have & design a tight fitting stock in whatever profile you like. Have it milled out of aluminum on a cnc machine, paint & let'er rip.
