Heres the situation.

Ive got an old FINN captured SVT40 that was butchered by Globe in the 70s.

Now it looks complete as I reinstalled the muzzlebrake, and stuff, but underneath has a chopped barrel and does not work the action well.
Another negative is that it is just a mixed parts gun. And without the barrel will never retain a cleaning rod, or latch. lots of bad.lol

So......i was thinking with all the cheap SVTs out right now, would it be worth it to grab one, and put all of its parts on my SA marked reciever? And have at least a functioning finn svt or not bother?

I figure i could recoup a third of the cost at least by selling the mag and some other parts on the one i buy, as I already have two rifles, with full mags and all other parts, or just leave it as a wall hanger and shoot my other one.

I've got one just like that, including the re-installed barrel extension. Mine runs well, though. Given the cheap SVTs out there now, it's not worth much.

If you use a donor rifle to fix the Globco Finn up, it's going to be worth more. It's still a mix-master and as long as you don't represent it as an all-original Finn SVT I don't see any ethical problems.

I've been thinking about shortening my Globco into an SVT "carbine".

So, you'd be using parts from a refurbished rifle to restore a chopped up refurbished rifle with rarer markings.

I don't see a problem. But it's your decision.

I'm not sure if the SVT40 bbl is pressed in or threaded? If threaded, I would be tempted to replace any affected parts on the Finn (including bbl) with refurb parts, but I would try to keep the stock if it's not bubba'd and as many Finn parts as possible.

I know its kind of 6 one way half a dozen the other. And the only part i need is barrel, cleaning rod, and rod retaining latch.

the stock is fine, but unmarked or numbered.

Hey, are those Globco Mohawk 555 rifles not rebarrelled with an SMLE barrel in .303?
...complete with headspace problems?

They did a model with a mag cut down to 4 rounds, the barrel/barrel extension chopped off right ahead of the gas block, with a Lyman blade sight dovetailed into the gas block.

Other than the chop job, it's all correct for a Finn capture.

I don't want to offend anyone, but given the scarcity of these Globco conversions, aren't they sort of a rare and collectible rifle on their own? Personally, I would leave it as is, and just buy a refurbed SVT40, it would probably cost you substantially less than trying to restore your existing conversion.
Again, just my 2 cents worth....no offense meant.

I agree with claven, theres nothing good about the Globe. It was ugly and didnt work properly.
I already have another rufurb. I just want to have something as rare as a Finn capture in at least complete condition, even if it is a mixmaster resto.

Wow, id never seen a pic of the carbine length. But mine was never one, and if i can just as easy rebarrel it, id be happy, but gaff I do know what you are thinking. Ill keep you updated.
