Here is original SVT sling.

It was already posted by Horilka.

But 90% of SVT's at wartime photos are with PPSH, PPSH ersatz, Mosin slings.
Even snipers (which must be well equiped) usually can be seen with PPSH or mosin slings.

Always wondered if any of those WW1 / 2 soldiers, if they survived the war, could hear a siren go off if they were standing next to it.

So a ppsh sling would be correct for a wartime svt?

Hell, even regular rope would be correct for WW2. The question is what do you want to put on your SVT - SVT sling or any substitute that was widely used on SVT? And even if you put PPSh sling, you now know that it's correct, but not exactly SVT sling, right? Unlike some people that believe there's no difference.

And even if you put PPSh sling, you now know that it's correct, but not exactly SVT sling, right?

Problem is, there's not enough authentic SVT slings for everybody; heck, there weren't even enough at the time. While it's nice to have full kit as if issued to guard the Kremlin, there's nothing wrong with going with period front-line replacements, and many surplus collectors even get by with *reproduction* web-gear.

Kind of like how there aren't enough bayonets to go 'round:

Crazy idea, could you import a bayonet from Europe if you found one? Its just a knife isnt it?

No problem importing a bayonet, knife, or sword from over-seas. Basically, the thing doesn't fold, so it can't be one of the Prohibited actions (butterfly, switch, gravity), and it isn't a push knife or knuckle guard. Thing is, some European nations do have different laws for blades, such as being double edged or too pointed (daggers), and maybe bayonets (weapons of war). Could have a problem on that side of things. (And of course the former Warsaw Pact member's postal system might have a few sticky fingers in the chain.)

Search SVT bayo.s on eBay and the only hits are usually over there. I bought one from the Bulgarian seller who lists quite a few (but before they were over $200), and everything worked out great. (Now that I've fallen prey to the irresistible $199 Lever sale on SVTs, I might even have to get more pokers!)

Looks like its time for an order! Any of the original tool pouches?
Are there any date stamps on the mag pouches?

I bought 2 pouches today at burnaby show. They do have Polish military acceptance stamp and military school stamp they were issued in. They are typical polish quality made very well. Russian pouches look like very poor quality when compared to this ones

This may be another dumb question but can u use stripper clips in a svt say mosin ones?too load it?

I just went to a local gear shop today with two svt mags, I tried them out in a double M14 pouch and they fit!
I need to loosen off the bungie tied a tad but they will deffinatly get the job done.
Now I can carry them on my chest rig. All I need now are more mags.
Just thought I would let you guys know.

Yes, but for the SVT you have to load them properly. When you load for the Lee Enfield, the proper way is for the bases to be flat against the back inside for the first round, up over the rim for the second, flat for the third, up for the fourth and flat for the fifth. In other words, down, up, down, up, down _-_-_ .

For the Mosin and the SVT, the rounds should be loaded so that the charger looks like a pyramid. That is, down flat against the back for the first round, up over the rim of the first one for the second round, up over the rim of the second round for the third one, then back under the rim of the third one for the fourth round, and back under the rim of the fourth round with the base flat against the inside for the fifth and final round.

Russian (actualy Soviet) made pouches available now are mostly war made examples. Those Polish are post war pouches. It's like comparing original scope for SVT with some modern red-dot that is fit-able on SVT. Apples and oranges, except apples are correct and oranges are not. If you want quality product why not buy modern gear?

appels and oranges one from 1940s and other from 1950s it is more like two types of apples I would say. Difference is more like russian ones were mass issued and mass produced, svt 40 in polish service were less then 30000 and mostly used by schools and elite KBW troops. Quality had to be high

Soviet pouches went to war, Polish did not. Soviet are of original design, Polish are not, and are almost what we call aftermarket these days. For me those are different fruits, but of course we all have different tastes
BTW, could you please share where you got this 30000 SVT figure? I haven't seen it before.
