Swedish Mausers? And their precise cousins.

Circa early 2000's I scored a M38 & a M96 Mauser Orbendorf Swedes for $75 each at a local gunshow. Figured I made out like a bandit!

Sold a M38 [no not the one above] recently for $500 cash..... crazy times!

Love those Swedes!

Lucky! Wish I was older and had my PAL back then.

A time machine would be helpful bout' now. :)

A question.

How hard would it be to find a drilled and tapped CG-63?

Tradex had brought in a bunch of sporters over the years, a few were Bubba'd up CG63's that had bases and new welded bolt handles, so there are some around. I bought one of them but sold it after a few years on here. They shoot well, but nothing mind blowing, the Swedes did everything they could to their '96 rifles to keep them competitive in ISSF competition, but they really never kept up with the other nations. In the end with the CG80's there wasn't much Swede left other then the bolt and receiver, they had Danish barrels and triggers, American laminated wood for their stocks, sights from several different countries, and still weren't winning.
This was the one I had....

Very nice! I'm not expecting 1/2" groups from a 50 year old rifle, more around the 1 inch or so groups.

here is a cg80 and an FSR89 the last to model target rifle to be built on the swedish m96 action. There were less than 500 of the FSR89 rifles built.
The top rifle is the FSR 89

I have been shooting 6.5x55 for decades, but I'm more partial to the Dane target rifles built on K98's. These things shoot very well.

If you get one in good condition and you develop loads that the rifles like, 1/2" groups are a distinct possibility. I owned three Surplus 96s, sold them all and kicked my ass ever since. I bought a new Zastava about a year ago from Tradex; new manufacture 98 mauser. While I love the rifle, it is the 6.5 x 55 caliber that makes it shine performance wise.

both the swedes and danish target rifles used the Shultz and Larson heavy barrel

Some of the CG63/80's used S&L barrels, not all of them.
I like the Danes for their heavier 98 receivers and the excellent Dane made triggers. They also feed as smooth as a push feed, they really knew how to tune these up into slick paper punchers.

Hey all!

Thought I'd start a thread about the Swedish Mauser. Any advice and/or ideas on the rifles?

A couple of questions:

What should I look for when buying a husky? From the small amount of reading I've done, you wanna make sure that the throat isn't in bad shape?

Anything else I should be aware of?

For CG series target rifles, How hard are they to find with scope mounting areas milled in?

I know their are certain ocular sights that are more valuable then others, what would be the ones to look for?

Thanks!

Mark
