SWFA SS scopes All Sponsors

So, if, I was to buy these with an american credit card,, and had them sent to an american address, and I went to the U.S. to pick them up, would either border services (Can, U.S.) have a problem with me bringing them back??!!

You'd have to ask yourself a few hard questions bobdbldr.
Like, ... how do the US authorities seem to know who to pull over and bust, just shy of the border.?

Ok, I have no plans on doing anything illegal just wondering if I can do legally or with paperwork! If not then I will have to pick from Canadian offerings!

without the proper export/import paper work, the American side better not find out what you're doing (illegal).

OK, not trying to do something illegal but what if a buddy would get it and send, let's say, as a new year gift?

Exactly.

I would guess that until SWFA changes their policy on exporting to Canada, warranty could be a major PITA.

Does anyone know the reason why they (swfa) chose not to deal with the canadian market ? I know it's a small market , but it sounds like they could move a lot of product up here . Makes me wonder what the back story is ? Hmmmmmm .....

Have always figured that SWAFA just don't need our business enough to be worth the fees and hassles factor.
I really do love my 10x side parallax StupidSniper though, it is a very good scope. Regular 1000yd hits no prob.

hmm, ...then wouldn't it be great if a Canadian importer went to LOW, and brought in their own brand of scopes?
say, nice [and affordable] prices from the highly reputable $300 SWFA SS fixed powers to something of the Nightforce 8-32Ă—56 NXS type?

bet they'd sell like hotcakes !

Just curious who/what LOW is?

Any one tried the SKW Optical SS10x42 ?

It sure looks like a Super Sniper

I have a few of the original Hakko SS scopes. They were a screaming bargain back in the day. Have one that needs repair and is simply taking up space in the basement because of these inane laws. Tried a local repair shop but that didn't work out. May take it with me to the states next trip and have a friend send it in. Then at least he'll get some use out of it. As to the subject of import; I see no reason a Canadian importer could not go to the manufacturer and buy the same or a very similar product for sale here. It would be more money of course due to the ever tumbling dollar and higher Canadian osts for everything, but probably still a good deal. - dan

Because SWFA owns the rights to the SS line would be a big reason. What you're suggesting would be like going to LOW and trying to buy some Nightforce scopes directly, so that you could just bypass dealing with Nightforce.

I just don't see that happening.

I did a very careful Google study last night. Those Chinese scopes do indeed look the same.

But the only info I can find online is that the SWFA scopes are still made in Japan. However, much of the Japanese scope companies import their glass etc. from China, so...

Reports on the SS scopes aren't 100% positive btw. They do fail from time to time.

Given a choice, I'd take one of the old originals over the ones being made now, just because. I can't personally believe that they are still built in Japan, using Japanese labour and Japanese glass for $300.
