Swiss Arms CQB

I rather like the Carbine too, over CQB. It looks particularly good with Tactical handguard. But I still don't like the magazine for it, even though it might be better designed than AR's.

All new guns incorporate the polymer guide and specialized gas valve.

As well, we have finally received the parts for Bigred and KevinB, so if nothing else thay may be able to let us know if the upgrades work for them.

So whats this specialized gas valve? I bought the "upgrade" guide rod but whats the deal with this new gas valve?

I guess mine hasnt broken casue I dont shoot it much.... :(

I hate to be a #### --but my ass has a huge sentimental value to me.
IF the Poly guide is GTG then I will be the biggest Sig ##### -- but until then gunfights with my ass in the wind are my number #1 issue...

BR -- that C is SA dude...

I'm interested as well Redleg.....

Its just as effective as most M4s at that distance. I heard about the poly recoil guide but not about a new gas valve? What's up with that?

I think that most CQB's and 552's that have been made in the last few years have the new silver gas valve. I think that even some that had that older metal recoil spring guide rods still had the new 552 gas plugs. I wouldn't get too excited about it. Maybe Redleg can elaborate.

This may have been a "teething" issue for the 552 as many short barreled 5.56mm weapons have had to improve and evolve to become reliable (port pressures, gas volumes, buffers ect.) This reminds me of several pistol makers who jumped into the .40game by putting .40 barrels on 9mm designed guns. Many of the pistols failed until adjustments and improvements were made.

I think that if the 552 had serious issues the UK SAS never would have adopted it. Same goes for the French Naval Commandos.

Never the less I respect what Kevin B has to say as he has used / experienced serious failures in tough conditions.
In my line of work we are not burning off mags on auto to suppress and break out of "situations" as may be the case some times for military / contract uses. I think the OPP shot about 24000 rounds the 552 during their testing and it didn't break or fail.

Just a few thoughts. So far I realy like my CQB and 552.

P.S. I hate to tell you but Military and Law Enforcement customers don't usually pay the same price that civillians do for some products. The comments about providing upgrade parts because 3-5 grand was spent per weapon don't apply here.

chanman, I will *definitely* be picking the CQB.. its reputation and looks can't be beat. Hands down nicest rifle I've ever seen

Hey, just making sure you noticed the OTHER shiny, multi-thousand dollar toys calling your name! :p

Rich -- I will take a detailed look at the 552 tonight - and see tell which gas plug is has (or BigRed might know)
My guess is we have the early ones as they go down like clockwork...

A 9" bbl is not ideal for 5.56mm -- I generally prefer 16" barrels.
I would noot mind a 551 as no one ever seems to have problems with them.

Thats all great but when these so called "upgrades" come out they should give them to all the owners not just if your breaks , and when you have to buy the "upgrades" that sucks even worse.

Hell even Robarms gave their "upgrades" for free.

glossary- upgrades are defects

Well you are entitled to your opinion. However the upgrades are designed to enhance full auto reliability, so it seems to be somewhat of a non issue with CQB owners. We brought in parts, because some people insist on having spares or upgrades regardless of the rationale, however we don't think that sending out parts to all owners is either justified or required.

So, how much for the improved gas valve?

And obviously you have just stated your opinion, so whats the opinion of Swiss Arms?
I`m sorry man but I`ve spent way too much money at your store to be nickle and dimed about some "defect" and it shouldnt cost you a penny either . Any way you wanna slice it a upgrade is a defect that they obviously have addressed for a reason, full auto or not. I`m not worried about Iraqies shooting me but what if it blows up and injures me or someone beside me and there are known issues?

Lets hope it doesnt blow up in somebodys face, literally.
I know mine wont as its just a wall ornament anyway..
