Hey guys,

Just wondering what capacity mags all the PE-90 (black specials, blue stars, classic greens, etc...), CQB shorties, Carbine shooters out there prefer? i.e., Factory 5/5, 20/5 or 30/5?

Which feed the best? Are most practical for use during 3 gun competitions? Bench shooting? (In your experience/opinion)

Which do you think looks the coolest? :p

Just wondering. Saw some pics where the shooter had four 30/5 locked together. LCF was high, but had to wonder how all those mags would change the handling ability of the rifle or balance point.

Anybody, please feel free to jump in!

The 5 round mags lack the ability to link together. The 30 rounders are too long and interfere with prone position shooting. The 20's are what the Swiss use.

Yepp, we just have the 20 rd mags issued, but just because some morons from the swiss shooting federation (SSV) wanted them (handier when shooting from prone position)

Personaly, I prefer the 30 rd mags, but the 20's are handier and quicker inserted.

They all feed well, they are not AR-like :rolleyes

Okay, we've got four of five responses who favor the 20 rounders and 1 who favors the 30 rounders, now the Poll results to date are the opposite with twice the number voting for the 30 rounders!

C'mon 30 round people! Tell me why you think the 30s are better! :D

I havent had the chance to handle the 20rd mags, but I like the look of the 30 and if the world should end its simple math 30 is bigger then 20. 30 is also the standard capacity for almost every single assault rifle so it just seems to make more sense to me.

What are the 2 votes for "Other"? What "Other"? Is there a drum feed option for the SG 550 SP (pinned to 5 rounds, of course)? Or do you think the best way to shoot the gun is without the mag, hand feeding single rounds? Inquiring minds want to know!

I'm stunned. That is truly the fugliest thing I have ever seen attached to a PE90. The site says the .308 version weighs 5 lbs. Empty. (no weight given for the 5.56 version) It holds 100 rds. Boy, would I ever like to go into battle with that. Better yet, pin it to 5 (that actually might be difficult) and go after 'yotes. You wouldn't have to shoot - they'd die laughing.

My apologies to the two who voted for it.

30rd = Cool :roll: :D

Mag pouches are the only legit reason.

You need 7.62 pouches or German or Swiss pouches (though it looks like the swiss must be 20rd'ers?) to fit the 30 rd mags though. However the Dropzone is selling some custom ones right now:

Though I’m sure Dropzone can make 20 rd pouches if you ask.

X-man I’ve been wondering why you are selling all your firearms. It‘s all coming clear now, I guess that second shipment is almost here.

Now this is why I miss the Off Topic Forum. Let me tell you a story!

MPI, I wish that the above was the case! I started my "CQB" fund last year...and waited...and waited...then lost the transmission in my POS 2001 Grand Caravan...and there went the CQB Fund!

"CQB" Fund Part II was started and I was almost there when shipment #2 came in. Okay, sell a couple of safe queens and I'm good to go. :D Nope! :(

Murphy's Law kicked in! For the guys that know me, I've been doing home renovations since the Spring, as time and money permit. I'd just finished completley redoing the Master and spare bedrooms a couple of weeks ago. New paint, carpet for the spare bed room. and I refinished the hardwood in the Master b-room. Everything looked great, until last week when we got hit with the remains of Hurricane Ophelia. Torrential rains for 24 hours. Friggin' roof sprung leaks all over the place!

The house is a two storey Cape Cod type. My Dad, two uncles and I built it about 10 or so years ago. The shingles were the "best" we could get back then and came with a 30 year warranty. Yeah! Got up on the roof and found half inch cracks in the shingles that sometimes ran for a couple of feet! Tried contacting the manufacturer and learned that they were out of business...gee, I wonder why?

Broke out the roofing cement and did some quick patches, but the roof has to be done before the Winter. The hard part now is getting 2-3 decent days to do it. Sadly, my M-1 Garand and a few other "toys" had to go for the "Shingle" Fund. My brother and I are doing the work.

I didn't want to make another claim on my insurance, as I had just made one due to a faulty heating pad that started a small fire in our brand new couch. The hardwood in the Family room was damaged by water used to put out the couch. Persian rug runined, yada, yada, yada... Insurance covered everything, so we got a complete new living room set, new rug, refinished the oak, new paint, drapes, etc...

Once that room was done...I heard a little voice saying, "...well, maybe we should repaint the Master Bedroom," which led to....eventually, the sad state of affairs whereby I had to say good bye to some cherished friends!

Of course, I've got to replace the damaged drywall in the ceilings, tape, plaster, sand, prime & paint for both bedrooms...did I mention how freakin' much I HATE painting? I've still got my guy room and reloading corner to finish as well. Did the whole thing in T&G pine. Still have about half a wall to finish on that, verathane it and replace the drywall hole I cut in the ceiling to gain access to the garage attic to check for leaks/water. Luckily, I hadn't yet gotten around to painting this one!

Only thing I have to look forward to is the UPS guy with my new CQB and Moose Hunting on Saturday. Until then, I'm pretending the house is perfect! If I can scrape up some spare cash I'll chuck it toward some extra mags for the new CQB.
