I just got one and the stock is cut down, but the barrel is still full length. Is there anywhere I can find an original stock for it?

That looks like one. I think mine is missing some parts though, the rear sight and maybe some other pieces, I'll post some pics tonight. The caliber is 7.5 x 53.5 any ammo available for it?

Please read the caution note in the article about what ammunition to use with the Model 1889 Schmidt Rubin Infantry Rifle. It's not built for modern 7.5 ...

Regards,
Doug

Thanks, I just read it. Not the end of the world if I can't shoot it I guess, I have other guns lol. I think its an interesting design for a military gun thats the main reason I wanted it, reminds me of the T-Bolt.

You can shoot it. I found the correct original ammunition at a local gun show, so check those tables out. The one in the MKL article is Serial # 192 and it was originally manufactured in 1891. Beautiful piece and I imported it from Switzerland.

Enjoy yours and see if you can find the parts to rebuild her..

Doug

Here's a really nice contemporary diagram that's part of the 62 pic photo montage within the MKL article. The one shown here is a small version...

There's also a PDF download for the Model 1889 Schmidt Rubin FULL Manual ...

$75.00 USD + shipping from the Netherlands.
Stocks have to be cut at barrel band to fit into the 1 meter max. length boxes all couriers and postal specified over there.
Dowel and wood glue repair and you're ready to go.
Want his email? Takes (FRAUD ALERT).
It's "Guisan"

Specify 1889, not 1896. stocks not the same.

Lot of these around. I've got one as well. Must be really high quality steel. Hardly any corrosion after all this time. No source in North America?
