You really should go back and read my posts.
You obviously are confused by what I posted.
If you're stating this then you must be right I just not understanding it all that clearly. However re-reading doesn't sen to clarify anything for me, saying that I am doing all this typing late at night w/o the aid of coffee.
Are you saying it's legal to cut down a barrel that comes pre-made from a factory/manufactured... that is already under 457mm (18") because it is already a restricted barrel? that is treading on a very slippery slope regarding the reg.'s as I read them or perhaps I'm confused? (again).
If we are discussing manually operated rifles here (and I believe we are) that come with a factory or manufactured barrel that is already under 457mm (18") the firearm wouldn't actually be restricted since the rifle is manually operated and not a semi.auto. centre fire rifle (and providing it's overall length is over 660mm it wouldn't be prohibited either).
Therefore cutting it shorter makes it a non-factory or modified manufactured barrel under 457mm on a manually operated centre-fire rifle, which would be a prohibited firearm under the reg.'s. (correct?)
Otherwise how would you determine/prove the barrel length before it was cut down with regards to an officer doing an inspection on your rifle for example and would that even matter with respect to our fine (cough not cough) regulations?
Our regulation's only tell us what we can't have or can't do, not what we can have or can do unfortunately.
Sorry for the confusion, I only wanted to clarify it isn't acceptable to shorten a (manually operated) rifle barrel to less then 457mm (18"). My mistake must have been regarding what you were stating; (that shortening a barrel below 470mm was approved by a CFC for you to actually do.).
Prohibited firearms include:
handguns with a barrel length of 105 mm or less and handguns that discharge .25 or .32 calibre ammunition, except for a few specific ones used in International Shooting Union competitions;
rifles and shotguns that have been altered by sawing or other means so that their barrel length is less than 457 mm or their overall length is less than 660 mm;
full automatics;
converted automatics, namely full automatics that have been altered so that they fire only one projectile when the trigger is squeezed; and
firearms prohibited by Criminal Code Regulations.
Please understand I'm only trying to clarify what is correct under the reg.'s, I'm not trying to make an argument or any problems here.
Cheers D
