It isn't bad enough that buyers are dealing with this saga but we have to read snide, baiting comments from the peanut gallery too? Give us some credit and a little slack...

Just as I waited for the rifle I ordered to be in my possession before commenting on provenance, so too will I wait for this issue to be concluded before I leave feedback.

About time! He was way over the top and seemed quite unbalanced. However he definitely fit the classical definition of "useful idiot". Let him loose as a pitbull and he was able to piss off the other party very quickly.
Oh well, he was, at the very least, quite entertaining.

Ya, anyone selling and italian .308 in Vankleek hill better think about posting pictures, particularly of the barrel markings and bolt lugs. Just Sayin'.

Coming from a welder of 10 years, and more importantly a weld inspector:
Do not trust those bolts. I highly advise everyone to return their rifles AND DO NOT FIRE THEM. There are about four critical reasons after a quick glance on my phone why those lugs are not safe.
As for Marstar, all I'll say is I'm not surprised. I saw more than I needed to arguing with John over those "sniper" SVT rifles. They really lowered the bar this outing, though.

I've read through the whole 82 pages.... My respect goes to the members here who helped with their knowledge and tenacious questioning to uncover what is in my opinion a fraudulent scam.

As a newbie from South of the border who followed this thread from the CMP forum, I wish you all good luck.
As for the welds on the bolts, as others have said, total junk now. Best thing to do with them is either melt them down or turn them into drill rifle bolts with welded firing pin openings. They will be a danger to anyone who tries to use them.
And just as a test a little while ago, I took a PB BM59 bolt and tried it in a USGI receiver and barrel. Passed the "Go" gauge test and passed the "No Go" gauge test just like the USGI WRA bolt in the rifle. The Italians would not have done the shoddy work and the markings on the side of these faulty receivers show where they came from. Which is sad because we can't get them South of the border. That receiver without the engraving would have been good for a BM59 build. Or a Danish build as I do have a VAR barrel.

200 rifles @ $1700 each = Total gross income for Marstar of $340,000.
Substract cost of rifles, shipping from Germany to Canada, paperwork, customs, yatta x3, and it's still a big ol' chunk of change. I can see where John would want this to go through. However, he appears to not be considering what this is doing to his reputation on this board and in the community at large. And I shiver to think what his insurance company is going to say if one of these poor, ill-fitted abused old girls lets go and throws parts around the range willy-nilly.
He really is playing with fire. I have done business with Marstar in the past. I can't, in light of this situation, see myself doing so again in the future. Damn shame, but there it is.

That's exactly how I feel, and I will not miss them a bit. All what they have to offer lately is the cheapest junk like NC Star products, which is very telling about their business' health.
I dont have a dog in this hunt primarily because I would never spend $1700 on ANY Garand (you guys should shake your heads - WTF were you thinking?!?! - dont you have wives controlling you!!) ... nor have I ever purchased from Marstars .. and I see he has a lot of positive feedback (and some not so positive recent comments!)
BUT ... is it possible that Marstars got "stung" by a wholesaler with a BS line ... maybe they inspected a few "samples" that passed the sniff test ... and placed an order for the balance of the 'stock'? I am not 'planting' a plausible explanation .... just that it doesnt make sense that a firm that has reasonably positive feedback for several years -- suddenly risks it all with a stunt like this.
Anyway -- until you folks are done right (and ethically) by Marstars on this deal -- i certainly wouldnt consider any purchases from them.

The business (Marstar) has a great responsibility towards their customers, to advertise accurately and to sell (following all the rules of the law) a save product. That means the business must make sure that all the rifles are as advertised and save, not just a sample of the bunch.
Johnone was informed about these fake T2 Garands, but he refused to remedy the fiasco (not even for the safety sake), he even stiffed his late customers for the back shipping costs.
Hell, who wants to be associated to a business like this!
They make Badger Arms look like the business of the century.
I don't think they got stung on this lot....at least not on the authenticity (which J1 still claims is legit), maybe on the dog#### quality (which he blatantly denies there is anything wrong with them either). John has been doing this for 30+ years and what we see in Canada from them is only a tiny portion of the business they do. If something can be sold in the US it will go there first, he may keep 5-10% of the "lot" for the Canadian market but that's about it.
I think he got this lot at a very low price, and simply tried to maximize profits (as REAL T2's) on it with the whole "no no, these are real super rare T2's built for the Dutch on Dane receivers in the '70's" when he was questioned about it.
I wonder if the barrels on these could be reamed back to 30'06 without causing timing problems? You would need a new properly fitting bolt first of course, but I'm just wondering if there is even enough meat of these barrels for that? Shoulder would only be moving a 1/2" forward. If the barrels were good quality it might have been an option... and if they were priced as unsafe parts guns and not as rare collectables of course.
