T97.. a FTF/FTE nightmare?

So I picked one of these up last week and took it to the range. It was a FTF/FTE nightmare. Every second round would feed crooked. I am assuming this is a mag issue, as the bottom of the stock mag it came with does not close properly (its open and loose), but to be sure, I wanted to run it by some people here first.

Any real issues with this rifle that I need to be aware of? So far, with the exception of my SKS, all my semi auto rifles have had FTF/FTE issues. People rag on the C7 for its reliability when DIRTY (which I hardly ever noticed), so I'm a little confused at how a rifle that seems equally as durable and well built can't fire one single mag (which is only 5 rounds) without having issues.

I have 2 LAR-15 mags on the way, so we'll see I guess.

What kind of ammo were you shooting? FMJ or soft point? I have had issues trying to use soft point ammo. Improper feeding and jams.

What mags and ammo were you using? The norinco stuff isn't crimped well enough IMO which causes the bullet to get pushed into the case sometimes.

Some folks have filed down their feed ramps ( a simple search will find this), although I never did on mine.

Another possibility is that it is a lemon, or the mag that came with it is a lemon.

Cycling some dummy rounds and it's the same thing. Tried a friends 5/30 mag and still the same. Seems like a waste of 1500$... I'm thinking "should have bought a Tavor" at this point.

My T97 has feeding issues with Lar-15 magazines. They work but they're not as reliable as my Gen 2 P-mags which actually makes the gun look like a Type 95. The factory mag for mine works very well. I know you're having feeding issues but your extracting issue could be because you have the gas system turned off.

Have you tried looking at what the gas system is set to? First time out on the range, I had mine set low and it would jam after every shot or 2. It caused similar issues and in some cases pushed the round into the cartridge.

I had the opposite. Mine works flawlessly in normal, but has feed problems when set to adverse. I saw that as normal though, as it should't be used except in emergencies when the gas system is sufficiently fouled.

My T97 fed perfectly and never had any issues with any of my mags. Definitely change mags and try again, pretty great guns all around I think

No problems with mine with Norc ammo, standard 5/30 mag,LAR grey mags,or the LAR black mags, never had to file, polish or adjust anything.

No FTF and for sure no FTE, even on low gas setting it chucks brass.

Stock mag works great, black LAR mags work great, norinco 5/20 mags work great, PCV beowulf mags work great.

Norinco 55gr works great, AE black box 55gr works great, green tip 62gr works great, federal soft point 55gr works great.

I find I have to push the mag in and pull it down so it seats properly, but doing that it's ran perfect.

I'll check out filing the feed ramp. I don't know enough about this rifle to want to do it myself. Going to take it to a friend who knows a gunsmith to look into. Crossing my fingers.

Hope it's not a lemon. I have bad luck in that field.. first car was a lemon, first PC was a lemon..

had to file my feedramps into a circular shape to help aim the cartridge into the chamber. still doesnt work well with norinco surplus ammo tho.
