T97 in 300 AAC?

My POS Chinese gun runs perfectly well. I think the addition of .300 blk would be a great option. Spcamno, the barrel is pinned and press fit ( please correct me If I'm wrong). It would likely need to be a custom barrel, which will be a pricey venture.

Yeah, My T97 is most definitely not a POS, it has worked flawlessly through close to 300 rounds of Norc surplus so far. .300 BLK would be awesome in the gun but probably would not be a cheap modification due to the way the barrel is pressed in. Would love one though!

Sure it isn't a Noveske or Larue, but I have over 2k rounds through my Type 97 and haven't had a single problem so crap is nowhere near appropriate.

WOW!!! 300 rounds! well then that's definitely 100% reliable. Come back when you have 3000 rounds through it and let us know how it's doing.

If you are too cheap to run anything better than norinco ammo through your rifle then 300BLK isn't a caliber you want to get into. You have to either be a reloader or not flinch at $16 for 20 rounds as the cheapest you can find factory ammo.
Personally I love 300BLK but it's just not for everyone or every platform.

I don't actually have a problem with the T-97 other than all the reports of 1.5 gas port holes and the other problems with QC. I just don't see the point in taking a $900 Chinese rifle and then throwing another $1000 at it to try to make it something it's not. I suggest you just enjoy it the way it is and if you want something for hunting animals too big for 223 then buy a hunting rifle or one of the other black rifles that can be had in another caliber.

I'm sure it's possible but you are looking at spending at least $300 on a barrel blank then at least another $600+ on machining and having a smith tune it and get it to work reliably.

I think a Tavor would be a better platform to try for 300BLK but no matter which way you go it's going to be expensive. The one I keep expecting to come out with a 300BLK kit is the XCR-L and hopefully sometime soon Bushy will make one for the ACR.

If you want a real quote try calling Ian at Herron Arms. He will either laugh at you or give you a quote in the $1000 range.

Sorry Your highness I have a job and two kids to feed... I'm not too cheap to put anything other than norinco through it I have not had a reason to yet. You should maybe think before you decide to make stupid comments about people you don't know. How do you know that I don't have another rifle that is already in .300 blk? Get off your ivory tower bud.

Thanks for all the post and comments.

My question is can this be done within a reasonable cost because besides the barrel ( the hardest part) the bolt face and magazine needs no modification.

However, some peoples start bashing these and let me ask you how can you define good and and POS?

Where can I find information or a lists of guns contain such information what is a good caliber and that is a pos gun?

I felt sorry to those because these people may or may not even handle one before and they already think its an inferior products.

Look at the cheaply made Kalashnikov Ak47 it was mean to be produce in mass production with stamped metal and rivets but it is proven it is the World's number one combat rifle.

To each of his own for those don't like the gun you need not to comment ( just as I never said your girl friend or wife is fugly) and pleass keep it to yourself.

.300 blackout uses .223 bolt face and magazines so that won't need to be changed.

What a with all the hatred and biased view toward a decent bullpup?! Is it because it is form China ?

The t97 does come with a slightly larger 5.8mm version namely t95 which is very accurate. So 300aac might be a perfect option with minor modifications. I m sure they can make it if there s enough interest here.

I like the the T97. For an irons fun plinker it's great.

I however don't drink the 300 Blackout cool aid. It seems to be a round to try and imitate a round that doesn't work in the AR platform. Plus you won't have trouble getting 223/5.56 but may have trouble finding the 300 AAC in the future as it may turn out to just be a special use or niche round that fades into the sunset after the fad is over.

Personally rather than converting the T97 I'd just add a CZ858 to the safe. If your heart is set on 300 AAC then I'd wait for something that comes out of the box in that caliber.

That being said if you absolutely must have a 300 AAC T97 or it's a project you really want to do then other than cost and finding the right gunsmith the T97 should work fine as a base. Anyone who's taken one apart would know there isn't much to cause reliability issues with the design. Manufacturing isn't super pretty but the heart of the system is very tried and true. That system has a proven reliability record even when cheaply made.

^haha

300 blackout is subsonic for short barrel units or with a can. A bullpup with a +16" barrel it doesn't make sense to me to go other then .223

300 blackout is like trying to shoot the fat lady out of a cannon meant for a midget at the local carnival. :p

That was pretty good. I suspect even the die hard 300Blk/AAC fans can laugh at that one. There should be an award for analogy of the week.
