So, now this is all theoretical, say the law suddenly changed overnight and your swiss arms became useless but you still wanted to be able to shoot .223 out at the range until things got worked out. Is the T-97 or a SU-16 the best interim option? A discussion of accuracy, fit and finish, and reliability between the two might be helpful for someone in this position.

The carry handle on the T97 looks pretty high. Assuming such a person would want to use a low powered TR-24 1-4x scope on the said interim option, is the SU-16 the only real option unless an FTU was utilized? (noting that the FTU makes the T97 option more expensive)

I would get the T97. I don't have any experience with the Kel-tec. The T97 I do have experience with though and it's a pretty solid rifle IMHO. Upgraded with the FTU I think it would be better worth your money over the SU-16.

The Swiss Arms is already useless and if you own a SA you will not be happy with either a T-97 or an SU-16. Those are both junk compared to the SA.
The next best thing would be at minimum an XCR or HK SL8-4 then moving up to either a Tavor or a converted ACR.

I've had both.
Sold the su-16 cuz lifetime warranty only covers original owner. It's very lightweight. But feels very cheap. Too much plastic.
I have the t97 and love it. Very rugged build. Functions flawlessly. Very compact. FTU is a huge upgrade and worth the money IMO. T97.ca/M14.ca are designing a lower handguard and mag release that should improve ergos greatly. Current mag release is not that bad using pistol mags after a little practice.

Here's mine

Interesting....ya, in this situation you have to assume interim solution- neither gun compares to a SA no doubt. How is mounting a low powered scope on the t97 with no ftu? Or is it better just to shoot irons then?

I got both and then I got an XCR.... Now the su sits in the closet next to the t97 collecting dust... Both are good guns, but don't compare when you get a higher end one. T97 has issues when using LAR mags. fixed that by putting a strip of tape on the front of the mags... Now the tape is off cause I use the LAR in the XR.

I will keep the T97 but am selling the SU, but only because it is a bullpup and cool :)

You can buy a 3x scope from richco that has the Chinese mounting system and does not need an adapter rail. You can put an adapter rail as well and mount anything but then you get more of a chin weld.

Also mine works with orange follower cproducts mags. Had problems with gray ASC LAR mags though.

I'd go with the 97. Actually I did. I held the SU and yes the alarming amount of plastic on it made me kring. The 97 is well balanced for a bullpup and is smooth too. Upgrade to the ftu (which I did) and it's a winner.

Why not shoot your SA? Didnt they just announce that owners could ise them once again?

image.jpgI have an su 16, it has not malfunctioned once. They're made out of polymer to keep weight down,5.5 lbs. I, personly do not like the look of a bull pup , so that's a game breaker right there. I've changed my forend to an aluminum one , now only the receiver is polymer , saying all that I will be selling soon and getting an XCR, mostly because of the barrel conversion.

Well that appears to be up for discussion still - I like to be able to shoot my NR rifles outside of the range. I am leaning t97 if this does not get sorted out soon. I do appreciate the comments by everyone.

I am trying to figure out why they even put that retarded rail on the type 97. WHere the #### are the optics? Out of those two I would pick the type 97. I was shooting mine last night, so fun!
