Like JayCee I have participated in 3 TR courses already. I am pretty sure that there will be no deviation from the set curriculum. The TR course are OUTSTANDING and well thought out and are for the most part all 2 day courses. They ARE NOT for the total beginner but bear in mind you do not have to be Gerry Miculek or C. Hathcock either. I am not discouraging any newbs from attending, just make sure this is not your first few months with a pistol or carbine! Your marksmanship will improve noticeably on the course and yes, like Kevin B I also recommend doing the pistol courses first. This will certainly be an asset on the carbine courses.
You MUST BE familiar with your chosen firearms: be comfortable handling, using and doing mag changes with a little speed. You can practice this before attending. Also, you should be comfortable drawing your pistol from a holster and able to re-holster without too much mucking about. DO NOT use a holster with a snap retention system. I STRONGLY recommend a safariland or similar holster without a snap /velcro strap retention system. Trust me... you will be sorry if you have a strap style retention system. Good gear may seem expensive but using it you quickly realize it's worth twice what you paid for it.
Yes the AR's were very prominent on the courses I attended but we also had a Norc M305 ( I loved hearing the booms of the 7.62 among the sharp cracks of the 5.56) & a mini 14 as well.
Again, I am not trying to discourage anyone. Just offering a little insight.
Regards,
