hey if your a total civilian is the course a waste of time? Or is it to specific? I wouldnt mind a small course to shoot my AR, Pistol and Shottie better... but is this course more geared towards those who are in the industry?

Definitely NOT a wast of time for a total civilian. However, Tactical Response's courses are not generally a Shooting 101 course. If you are not already familiar with your chosen firearms, you will probably bog the course down - you don't want to be "that guy".

Mags Question

Not sure if this is the right thread to bring it up..

How do they alter the course for 5 round mags? They ask for three of each (pistol and rifle) so if it's by rounds we would need....(hold on..I'm cypherin)

5X6=30X3=90/5= 18 5round mags!

Like JayCee I have participated in 3 TR courses already. I am pretty sure that there will be no deviation from the set curriculum. The TR course are OUTSTANDING and well thought out and are for the most part all 2 day courses. They ARE NOT for the total beginner but bear in mind you do not have to be Gerry Miculek or C. Hathcock either. I am not discouraging any newbs from attending, just make sure this is not your first few months with a pistol or carbine! Your marksmanship will improve noticeably on the course and yes, like Kevin B I also recommend doing the pistol courses first. This will certainly be an asset on the carbine courses.
You MUST BE familiar with your chosen firearms: be comfortable handling, using and doing mag changes with a little speed. You can practice this before attending. Also, you should be comfortable drawing your pistol from a holster and able to re-holster without too much mucking about. DO NOT use a holster with a snap retention system. I STRONGLY recommend a safariland or similar holster without a snap /velcro strap retention system. Trust me... you will be sorry if you have a strap style retention system. Good gear may seem expensive but using it you quickly realize it's worth twice what you paid for it.
Yes the AR's were very prominent on the courses I attended but we also had a Norc M305 ( I loved hearing the booms of the 7.62 among the sharp cracks of the 5.56) & a mini 14 as well.

Again, I am not trying to discourage anyone. Just offering a little insight.

Regards,

Ask James will tell you - ANY GUN with the proper mindset can be used.
Obviously though certain firearms will do better.

I would suggest a lever or pump action would work if you used your mind -- and adapted your tactics.

Do you need to provide your own firearms(handgun specifically)? Or have a restricted license?(although it would be an excuse to get off my a$$ and take the test)

You must bring your own firearms to the courses.. unless there is somewhere you can rent them nearby which is next to impossible in Canada. I brought my XD & 2 AR15's 4500km's (each way that is!) to participate in the BC courses last May.... but that's just me  :dancingbanana: :runaway: :D

Regards,

Also Yeager also stated that if you wanted you could even train with a 22 Rim fire there training program gets you into the mindset real fast ,But like Jaycee said you better be familiar with the firearms you bring, and to reiterate what Boomer686 said bring a good holster that you have practiced and are competent with .On my course I struggled with my holster not fun I felt I was dragging the class down

Low night skill is essential....and the chance to practise is not present often.

GT, we try to conduct low-ligh/no-light scenarios in our past IDPA shoots. We would first conduct the scenario run in full light, then low-light, and if everyone agrees, we do our final scenario run in no-light or with a hand held torch or gun mounted light.

Stats shows that most gun fights happend between the hours of 2200 to 0400 so it is definitely important to practice and train for these situations.

Monday and Tuesday Fighting Rifle.
