I have more concerns about Canadian assembly and QC steps than about Turkish manufacturing..Fingers crossed this turns out to be a solid rifle. Everyone likes to roast Turkish made firearms, but considering the quality of the Canadian made semi options, theres nothing to lose by giving the Turks a chance.
Still takes AR mags.Does anyone know if it still takes ar mags? The crypto is a deal breaker for me.
Apparently people are already running crypto with STANAG )) Just saying, not a legal advise, not an endorsementDoes anyone know if it still takes ar mags? The crypto is a deal breaker for me.
Seems like a really grey area lol it’s exactly what it needs thoughApparently people are already running crypto with STANAG )) Just saying, not a legal advise, not an endorsement
Awesome thanks!Still takes AR mags.
The video shows the PMAGs are ground down to fit in the magwell.Apparently people are already running crypto with STANAG )) Just saying, not a legal advise, not an endorsement
Well, you do make a good point in that historically, both Canadian and Turkish made firearms have been a hot pile of crap. From what I gather the R18 has been a fairly reliable platform with mediocre accuracy. My fear is that introducing Turkish made junk into this platform will only decrease reliability.Fingers crossed this turns out to be a solid rifle. I think it would be less risky to just mill out the shelf in the magwell of the rifle rather than modify magazines to fit. There are already products on the market/modification service for the 10/22 for TUF-22 magazines and the 10/22 Remington 597 adapter. I know about the Type 81/AK mags and Valmet/Galil mags as well, but that is a bit different because those guns came before the legislation.
This is a huge legal grey area and most of the time it doesn't work out for legal gun owners when there is a grey area.
I hope a change of gouvernement will lead to all of this becoming a moot point.
Your points are well-taken.Milling the receiving is basically converting the rifle to a C21 non-compliant rifle which specifically states that a SA not to accept mag over 5.
Toying with your magazine to make it fit is essentially the same because it just proves the above ^
Same idea as FA and easily converted FA. Play stupid games will get stupid prize. You can't prove the government stupid, because they are always right. People spent all the time and money to set things up to make a product and some guys out there are trying to set you up on youtube.
Why can't people just exercise some tactical patience and wait for another 6 months for this Liberals government to go away?
Sterling Arms International is indeed UK based. However, the R18 Mk2 was designed and manufactured in Canada under the SAI name, primarily for the Canadian market (but with international sales aspirations). The Sterling R18 Mk3 was again designed in Canada (by the same joint SAI/The Shooting Edge design team), but will be manufactured overseas with Canadian assembly and Quality Control checks (eg. test-firing). Off-short component manufacture allows for a much lower price point thanks primarily to lower labour wages, with a $900 saving passed onto the Canadian consumer. The SAI R18 Mk3 will therefore retail for just $1800 CAD.I'm a little confused, so let me break it down.
I thought the R18MK3 (and the MK2) was manufactured in England? I see mentions of Turkey for some reason and dont understand why, maybe I didnt read closely enough and missed something.
Would Sterling sell the MK3 upper standalone, and would it fit on say a Spectre Ballistics 180B lower? As much as I want to build a Crypto, the 180 platform has a lot more purchase on the current market, and waiting for the IRG/NoDak ChicoJAKL thing I can use the same lower no problem, just my thought process on how I wish to go about possibly experiencing the R18MK3
Its legal to due so, you can mod a rifle to work accept a magApparently people are already running crypto with STANAG )) Just saying, not a legal advise, not an endorsement
I had the inverse, my R18mk2 was very accurate with but its reliability shat the bed after 1000 rounds for both my original upper and replacement upper.Well, you do make a good point in that historically, both Canadian and Turkish made firearms have been a hot pile of crap. There is nothing whatsoever "junk"-like about the Turkish manufacture of firearms components. The SAI R18 Mk3 parts manufactured in Turkey are fabricated from T7075 aluminum alloy on Robotic CNC machinery to world-class ISO standards, then Type 5 Hardcoat Anodized. Those Turkish components are far superior in terms of fit and finish to the parts manufactured in Canada for the SAI R18 Mk2. The Turks may admittedly not make low-cost firearms to last for the Canadian market, but don't under-estimate their capacity for machining and fabrication excellence despite their (cost-saving) low wages. Compare a Mk3 Receiver set to a Mk2 set and you will see what I mean....Well, you do make a good point in that historically, both Canadian and Turkish made firearms have been a hot pile of crap. Adapting firearm to accept different legal magazine is legal. Here's C21:Milling the receiving is basically converting the rifle to a C21 non-compliant rifle which specifically states that a SA not to accept mag over 5.
