So I've started the design and had a prototype made of something I always thought was lacking in the lever department, and that was a more efficient way to carry rounds. Sure I have a cowboy setup with loop belt and have those silly uncle mikes 6 rounds belt cards, but none of those are quick or efficient, and my gun carries more than 6 rounds. There had to be a way to "Get with the times," and do a modern lever ammo setup that would work.
First, while I know purists may loathe the idea, but the concept of a modernized lever action, even to the idea of it being "tactical," has been around for a while. While obviously dated and lacking in certain aspects as compared to modern designs, they lend themselves to being fun multipurpose rifles and of all my longarms from my historic mausers to my pimped AR and all in between, I would have to say I think my lever is the gun I love the most.

Currently it is a pre-remington 1894C with some additional mods, trying to keep it somewhat modernized but without going crazy with rails and doodads. It has the possibility of fullfilling many roles from defence to plinking to hunting deer and smaller creatures and would probably be my goto gun if I could only take one.
So, this is the first design I came up with. It was handmade locally by a Canadian tactical tailor and is all milspec webbing etc.
Here are some outside pics of the design, it has 10 loops on BOTH sides to accomodate 20 rounds of .357/38spl
The "tactical," part of this? IT IS DESIGNED TO FIT INTO A SINGLE M4 POUCH! Yes, Now I can legally actually hold 20 rounds in that mag slot. Or I can just pocket it right? Either way, 10 rounds is what a standard 357 carbine will hold. Perfect, 2 reloads per card.

BUT, it gets better. I'm now going to fit 30 rounds onto that one card and make it fit into a double m4 sized pouch.
Here's a TRICK I found regarding .38sp/.357 magnum rounds. 10 OF THEM FIT EXACTLY ONTO AN SKS STRIPPER CLIP!
That's right, they fit 10 perfectly. Obviously they cannot be loaded easily this way, but for carrying loose rounds, this is pretty neat.

So, how am I going use this to fit it all together? Well, there's a pouch/space between both sides of the shellcard that pefectly fits the additional 10 rounds on the sks stripper clip. Yep, it was all meant to be. Sks stripper clips are a dime a dozen, heck you can goto your local range and just pick free ones up off the floor if you don't already have hundreds lying around in your house.
It all fits nicely like this, and with the SKS stripper clip inside, you now have have 30 ROUNDS that will fit into a DOUBLE M4 MAG POUCH if I so desire.

So yah, there's the design I came up with. 20-30 rounds that fit into an m4 pouch of either single or double size works for me. Stick one on your belt or throw the shotcard into a pocket. Just seems like there had to be a better and more economical way of carrying larger amounts of ammunition.
Sorry if I almost sound like a salesman...but I almost am, if anyone else is interested. This is just something I've been meaning to figure out for a while now, as just throwing loose rounds into a pocket to have fun with the lever gun or using a cowboy belt with loops just wasn't quite up to snuff.
There is one catch that I found with this design. While it fits into a single m4 pouch WITHOUT the sks strip inside, it won't stack 2 loaded cards inside those double pouches with dividers (2 singles back to back). I am doing a slimmer design without the interior pouch that can fit those style pouches STACKED as well, but it won't have the possiblity of inserting the extra 10 rounds on the sks strip. I'll have pics up when that one is done inside a double m4 pouch with divider to clarify next week probably.
