So I've started the design and had a prototype made of something I always thought was lacking in the lever department, and that was a more efficient way to carry rounds. Sure I have a cowboy setup with loop belt and have those silly uncle mikes 6 rounds belt cards, but none of those are quick or efficient, and my gun carries more than 6 rounds. There had to be a way to "Get with the times," and do a modern lever ammo setup that would work.

First, while I know purists may loathe the idea, but the concept of a modernized lever action, even to the idea of it being "tactical," has been around for a while. While obviously dated and lacking in certain aspects as compared to modern designs, they lend themselves to being fun multipurpose rifles and of all my longarms from my historic mausers to my pimped AR and all in between, I would have to say I think my lever is the gun I love the most.

Currently it is a pre-remington 1894C with some additional mods, trying to keep it somewhat modernized but without going crazy with rails and doodads. It has the possibility of fullfilling many roles from defence to plinking to hunting deer and smaller creatures and would probably be my goto gun if I could only take one.

So, this is the first design I came up with. It was handmade locally by a Canadian tactical tailor and is all milspec webbing etc.

Here are some outside pics of the design, it has 10 loops on BOTH sides to accomodate 20 rounds of .357/38spl
The "tactical," part of this? IT IS DESIGNED TO FIT INTO A SINGLE M4 POUCH! Yes, Now I can legally actually hold 20 rounds in that mag slot. Or I can just pocket it right? Either way, 10 rounds is what a standard 357 carbine will hold. Perfect, 2 reloads per card.

BUT, it gets better. I'm now going to fit 30 rounds onto that one card and make it fit into a double m4 sized pouch.

Here's a TRICK I found regarding .38sp/.357 magnum rounds. 10 OF THEM FIT EXACTLY ONTO AN SKS STRIPPER CLIP!
That's right, they fit 10 perfectly. Obviously they cannot be loaded easily this way, but for carrying loose rounds, this is pretty neat.

So, how am I going use this to fit it all together? Well, there's a pouch/space between both sides of the shellcard that pefectly fits the additional 10 rounds on the sks stripper clip. Yep, it was all meant to be. Sks stripper clips are a dime a dozen, heck you can goto your local range and just pick free ones up off the floor if you don't already have hundreds lying around in your house.
It all fits nicely like this, and with the SKS stripper clip inside, you now have have 30 ROUNDS that will fit into a DOUBLE M4 MAG POUCH if I so desire.

So yah, there's the design I came up with. 20-30 rounds that fit into an m4 pouch of either single or double size works for me. Stick one on your belt or throw the shotcard into a pocket. Just seems like there had to be a better and more economical way of carrying larger amounts of ammunition.
Sorry if I almost sound like a salesman...but I almost am, if anyone else is interested. This is just something I've been meaning to figure out for a while now, as just throwing loose rounds into a pocket to have fun with the lever gun or using a cowboy belt with loops just wasn't quite up to snuff.

There is one catch that I found with this design. While it fits into a single m4 pouch WITHOUT the sks strip inside, it won't stack 2 loaded cards inside those double pouches with dividers (2 singles back to back). I am doing a slimmer design without the interior pouch that can fit those style pouches STACKED as well, but it won't have the possiblity of inserting the extra 10 rounds on the sks strip. I'll have pics up when that one is done inside a double m4 pouch with divider to clarify next week probably.

Why, you want some? :p

I was thinking they "might" be marketable to a few people. I stand to make tens of dollars on the idea. Maybe sell 5. 4 to myself and 1 to some curious passerby.

But seriously, yah I can get more made if you want. Different calibers too, although only .357 willl work with the inner pouch function since as far as I know only .38spl/.357 will fit on an sks stripper clip. Like I said I'm making a version that has no inner pouch which will make it thinner as well to fit into single m4 pouches that are stacked with a divider. Those could be made to fit any caliber.

Come to think of it these could be upsized to fit larger calibers for precision rifles that have internal magazines, since they have the same issue of having no magazine and having to carry and load individual rounds. Then all your sniper/precision rigs could load your .308's and such from a card while still utilizing your standard m4 pouches on your chest rigs. Sort of like people buying those 5 round spandexy el cheapo candian tire belt shell holders since there's not really much else...only these will be milspec quality and actually hold more than just 5 measly rounds, and of course fit into a generic m4 style pouch or just your pocket. That's actually not a bad idea.

Yeah! I think it'd be cool. I don't have a specific, personal need, but I could see people loading up on those, especially when they're M4-mag form factor.

I like the innovation. Everyone forgets that levers were tactical rifles at one point in history. To a lot of people it's still the go to gun around the ranch/ farm. If you build one for 45/70 you can put me down for one.

For rifle rounds I would do a 10 rounds per side verticle setup on the card, 5 top/5 bottom = 10 per side to ensure they still fit in a typical AR pouch. I'm going to pick up the slim style ones this week. This way you have 20 rounds accessible per card.

I'll update when I get the chance.

Since 10rds fit on the sks stripper clips, there are molle pouches, bandoleers, and stock pouches made to hold loaded stripper clips for the sks.

Wilderness Tactical products makes these, not as nice as your 20rd one though.

See thats the thing...

Who wants 6 rounds for a lever gun? Great for a revolver I guess? But unless its an SA only wouldn't you be carrying speedloaders or moonclips anyways?
Another problem, why have it in a dinky little spandex belt. Gonna just hang it off your belt loops and have them dangle? Or throw them in a pocket where they would be not much better than grabbing a handful of loose rounds? At leats on a card that fits in a standard pouch or pocket you know you can have a positive grip on a solid 20 rounds instantly. Not fumble for a dangly 6 then have to fish out another 6 and have a few left over. It's just uneven and inefficient. It would be slightly different for .44mag or .45/70 but at least you would be able to do a full load off one positive card.

And putting 357 on an sks stripper clip is great for storage, not for loading. You have to peel each round off individually first, I wouldn't carry just that alone at all.

Gonna go pick up the 20 round slim cards with plastic divider, Ill throw pics up later.

Yea, I had the same quarrels with the 6rd holder, it was almost a good idea but not quite.

What is the make of the stock pack on the rifle pictured?
